There's so much technically wrong with what many of you are just throwing out there that I think we'd all much be better off if we leave the used game debate for when any of this is remotely confirmed.

Just having a conversation/speculation and Opinions aren't wrong.

        Two thoughts:

        1. If one of Sony/MS doesn't have restrictive anti-used software junk on their console I'm buying that system.
        2. I'm not buying a system until it's been out a year because of the problems this current generation (and launch games typically aren't great).

The days of cutting these companies any slack are over. If they want to declare war on us then don't be shocked when us consumers turn on them.

Sorry I'm not as technically savvy as some people, but what does it take for a Console to not play used games?

Would there be some kind of Code on the Disc that "Binds" it to the console it is first played on? Making it unreadable on any other console?

Wouldn't this also prevent you from bringing games over to a friends house, or borrowing someone else' game disc?

No one really knows. We are just talking about the possiblity of it and what would happen if it did etc...
Personally I dont think this will ever happen but gives us something else to talk about to pass the time until ME3 and The Show release

It would have to be something that is web based. There is no way they would also require that you hook your console up to the internet, so I don't see it happening. Only other way would be to make the disk drive writable and write the console number or something on the disk when it is first played.

Can't say I'm "excited" but. New tech always has me intrigued. I just want to only go with 1 systm but I'm pretty weak in that regard.

Yeah The Show makes a PS4 a probable.
I've always been lucky with systems for the most part. I'm still rolling with my launch 360 as an example (it did fail once with a free repair). No way id be on a 7th one. I'd have said screw it after 2-3 of them.
My PS3 got the ylod and I went to the slim with no problems after. My Wii had a bad video card and it was replaced free by Nintendo.
So all in all not bad. Only $ i spent was having to replace the ps3

Which is why this kind of thing will be confined to the online pass-type system that a number of companies have adopted.

Somehow my xbox 360 has lasted for 4 years, which seems to be rare from what I have read from others.

I am completely not ready to be honest. I have said it before but I am thinking of just moving back to PC only after this crop of consoles end. You can build a powerful PC that will play anything out there and it is technically a console now. You can hook them up to modern TVS, can use xbox controllers, offer "apps" such hulu.

Only downside I see to the PC debate is lack of sport titles.

                              Re: Xbox 720

I am looking forward to the next generation, Microsoft seems to be on a roll as far as iterating and continuing to improve their console experience, no reason not to expect the same going into the next generation. Really looking forward to a more integrated Xbox Live across multiple platforms and what kind of capabilities the next version of Kinect allows for.

I'm looking forward to see what Sony comes out with to compete with the above, or if they're left copying things like achievements, motion controls, etc. The experience my PS3 provides is nearly identical to the day I got it, and that's not all that acceptable anymore IMO. I wonder if they'll even create a followup to their 'Wiimote +1' motion control scheme. I haven't sold/traded in a console since I went from my NES to Genesis, so it's feels strange realizing I wouldn't miss the Wii that hasn't been turned on in over a year and that the PS3 could be replaced with a BD player and we probably wouldn't miss it. In fact a BD player with Google TV or was able to stream Amazon VOD (Netflix is a given) would probably get more use.

I am definitely excited for the next generation, doesn't mean I will or am obligated to buy it day one.
