Your xbox is on doing nothing just racking up hours and hours of "use" even though you are not using it. Instead of that same person turning on the console when he wants to use it so the "used" time would be MUCH lower.

I just don't see the point of forcing it to be on. Why can't I turn it off and on when I wish?
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a hibernate and shut down completely type option. I don't see it being where it is impossible to shut down.

lol..I keep thinking of the old quiet riot video where the kid can't pull out the giant chord from the wall.

Or maybe you unplug it and think its off and Kinect just blinks at you.

If you are worried about your console always being on, you can always unplugged it for a while and plugged it back in.

in this topic i see a lot of people afraid of change. I wish I was around when Xbox Live first was introduced. You guys must have thought it was awful.

I agree with Dave I can't see there not being a option to shut off (I hope).

Now with that said it has nothing to do with afraid of change. I'm all for positive changes, for instance I love all digital. Less boxes around and far easier, I love steam and use It more than enough.

I just don't find why I HAVE to always be on and HAVE to keep the kinect connected.

            Those things just seem unnecessary

So it has nothing to do with what I consider steps in the right direction. It's things that just remove options from the consumer..

I haven't seen anyone 'afraid of change' in this thread. Just people discussing why they think what they do about the rumors which is just a healthy discussion, no matter which side you fall on. I don't think anyone ever thought XBox Live / PSN would be a bad thing, people were gaming on their computers online for quite some time before that.

I also think going digital is awesome, and would utilize it exclusively... But to make something digital-only at this point in time is setting yourself up for failure or a large backlash because there are lots of homes out there without the high-speed internet to support a digital-only market.

As for the always on machine? I could care less about that. The only rumor that makes this a no sale for me is the Kinect being a must-have. I don't enjoy any Kinect games, don't have children or anyone else in the household that enjoy the games and I personally have no use for the Kinect - so taking the option away from me to have one by telling me I must have one sours me on it. Notice that nowhere did I say the Kinect was bad - it's just not my cup of tea.

the always on thing doesn't bother me as long as they are doing updates to games while I am away and then I can turn it on and be good to go immediately... that is what they mentioned with PS4, and if they do the same with the Nextbox it would be a selling point for me, and I am sure both will have a physical off switch.

I don't really understand what the fuss about kinect 2.0 is all about. Nobody said your forced to use it just like now. I don't like it cuz it's one more thing to drive the price up.

Yeah, they have stated you are forced to use it. For the Xbox to function the kinect has to be powered on.

I'm sure he means "using it" in the sense of using it while playing a game, not just powered on.

No used games is another problem I have with this console, if those reports are true. Thats a personal killer for me. Only a few games take me for full price. and now these titles are suppose to run for 70 bucks each? No bueno.
