That's because they haven't announced a date yet. It was just rumored to be sometime in April.

That's the thing that makes it funny to me. You have some commenting (over at Kotaku) on articles that only people that are very interested in this stuff will see. And, if you are very interested, you will surely have some type of "always on" device so you can get the latest word on things...you are interested in.

There is this stubbornness I am seeing that tends to show itself in human nature when things change. I also think the "always on" thing isn't necessary, but for me I'm in a position where, if my internet isn't working, I'm not able to watch anything on TV. All our TV entertainment is done via the 360, so I have to be always on. And, it is very rare that I do not have a connection. So being always connected is essential for me.

But even beyond that, I want my device to be always connected. I enjoy the "live" feel that my phone has with things updating and me being notified about it. I like the ability to filter that information to my liking. I like getting on my xbox and browsing updates, demos, friends' activity etc. It's a very natural thing.

And again, the only ones debating this entire topic are people that are always on....so what's the big deal?

        Re: Xbox 720

As someone who has internet access at home, the 'always on' doesn't bother me personally all that much in that regard. However as someone who travels out of town a lot visiting relatives who do not have internet connections and will probably never have it, this makes my console purchasing decision much easier. I usually end up getting both PS and Xbox anyway, but the Xbox will be something I can wait to purchase at price drop time now. I can't imagine going on those week long visits to a family member's place which is in a very rural, boring location and not being able to play my game at all because there isn't an internet connection available.

          Re: Xbox 720

The problem I have with saying something along the lines of "Always on is fine because your computer is always on as well, isn't it?" is that sure, it is, but if/when it's down, what am I going to fall back on to occupy my time? My Xbox/Playstation. So if I have an Xbox and it's "Always On", AND my internet goes down for whatever reason, then I'm doubly screwed.

Honestly, this is getting overreacted to, but at the same time it is making me lean that much more to buying a PS4 instead.

Honestly this is some really blah bleh and meh talk when it should be about what the console can do and what it offers, this is the only thing a MS employee makes a comment on?

Pretty weak of them so far.

Well the ones that cant get online period cant really complain on the internet. So yeah.

I travel alot, and on certain trips depending on the duration I bring my xbox, or playstation and hook it up where I can. In those cases I am not usually in a mindset where I can assume I'll be connected to anything. So for that, always on is unattractive. There really is no good reason why my xbox need to be connected to the internet for it to work.

Which is why I also mentioned people who weren't on the internet. So yeah. But the point wasn't that the people who are complaining have the ability to connect to the Internet, it was that the most vocal that I've seen are from people who are online every day of the week for long periods of time; the type of people who are likely to have a wireless connection in their homes and for whom this really wouldn't be a big issue for outside of a "principles" kind of thing.

People just like to be part of a mob, as most recently demonstrated by the SimCity launch. A game with nearly unprecedented outrage while it remains the #1 PC game at Amazon.

What mob dude? I think its ridiculous that this is the only talk that has been had for some time and MS is doing nothing to change that.

I don't think its a matter of having a connection as people don't want that to be forced on them as a requirement to play the thing. It is a stupid idea if you ask me if it is true that it has to be connected to work.

Yeah. I understand that I'll have a connection most of the time. I just hate that if my internet goes down for an evening (which has happened at some places I've lived) then you can't play your gaming system. That would annoy me.

Otherwise I like "always on"...I usually am "always on" so it doesn't bug me. Just that it can't adapt to situations when we may not have internet.

..but mgo, who wants a console that has a requirement for some outside source to play the thing?

That doesn't even make any sense...they're forcing you to use internet to play their box, why? That's the issue people have.. you need internet to have xbl and do certain things on it now, so that's definitely not the problem.

And Sim City followed Diablo 3, an always-online game that had server problems at launch but didn't dissuade anyone from getting Sim City. I don't trust any of this outrage until I see people actually do something other than whine on forums, and I'm pretty sure that that's Microsoft's strategy too.
