Isn't this similar to Play tv just internal?

Re: Xbox 720
The era of a console JUST being used to play games is pretty much over.
IMO a console is too much money to just play games at this point (and they realize it as well)
I'm not saying that I want them "always on" with regards to internet, because I don't. I just think all the added features make a system a better option.
There's PC gaming for you, but then again a PC does all these extra things so may not be a good option either.
I think you can just ignore all the added stuff though and just play a game, can't you? That's why I don't see the hate. I understand the "always on internet" hate though.Last edited by mgoblue; 04-10-2013, 02:37 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Basically that rumor is everything I've said I was hoping it would be over the last few months. Love it.
You can plug in a GoogleTV without using the HDMI pass through, just don't get to use all of the features naturally. Will be interesting to see what your less-integrated options are if this holds up.
Could easily see this functionality being the source of all of the always-connected FUD though.

The ps4 is adding one thing that I've seen that interests me (the live stream button.)
Aside from that, everything else is optional. It won't have to be always on, and I won't have a cruddy webcam accessory that I have absolutely 0 use for be required.
Again, I'm all for options. Its when you start making things required that I take issues with it.badComment

Re: Xbox 720
I like how vg leaks is walking back from the always online stuff they've been detailing for months
When the Durango (game machine) launches, it will not support backwards compatibility for 360 games out of the box. Instead, this functionality will come from the other unit that will be networked with the Durango to provide this (not unlike the DVD add-on for the original Xbox).
The purpose of the smaller Xbox unit is to compete with Apple TV, but also provides XBLA and 360 game support which will give it an edge over Apple TV. The rumors of “always online required” comes from the smaller Xbox unit which may not have a disc drive and like Apple TV it would require a network connection and internet to provide any real functionality. It may be possible they will design both consoles to be stackable.
Durango itself will also always be online like any other device (correct with rumors), but it will not be a requirement to play local content and it will not prevent playing used games.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Now if it is a webcam, and always has to be on I'm not getting a ps4 either. I don't need a camera for my console, just like I don't need an extra motion sensor for what my physical body does while I game.
Those are useless to me. Make everything but the video games optional and it'd be back to a will purchase for me. For all companies.Last edited by ubernoob; 04-10-2013, 03:27 PM.badComment

Their version of kinect isn't a webcam, its more along the lines of a Wii/psmove I thought.

Re: Xbox 720
I guess maybe not everyone is understanding the GoogleTV comparisons, here's a fairly poor video that kinda shows you what people mean by a UI overlay and what you can do with an HDMI passthrough.

Re: Xbox 720
I think a good comparison for Kinect and it now being internal to the Xbox is web cameras and laptops. For some time you would have to plug into your USB port your web cam and set it up for use. Now most consumer laptops have the web camera internal as default.
That does not mean the camera is always on, looking through your closets and rearranging your furniture while you sleep. It just means it is now more efficient and I'm sure there will be an option to disable it.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Xbox 720
The answer is no. PlayTV was for recording OTA signals and in EU only because their OTA is much more standard than the US... that's why I posted the video because that's not a similar product at all.Comment

I don't see what's unclear or how we're arguing, but OK. You're the one asking the questions. Or am I hard to understand because my replies aren't as articulate as:
