I find it funny that VGLeaks reported that like a month ago, but no gaming news outlet looked into it. But when VGLeaks reported that it would require online, all the news outlets took it to heart and had crazy amounts of reporting on it.

Ubernoob, I enjoyed your response. It's hard for me to respond to the JRPG specifics as that isn't my genre of choice; the only one I have played on current generation consoles is FF13, which I thought had an interesting battle system but the story lost me pretty quickly. I find that JRPG stories more often than not tend to be border on the ridiculous or convoluted, which drives me away, but there are a few games which don't do this which I have been able to enjoy. I'll give Ni No Kuni a shot sometime, all that said.

As to FPS games, give Bioshock Infinite a try if you haven't. In my opinion, it does a some genre blending with player progression and weapon upgrade mechanics, its art and art direction are stunning, the story is engaging, it is well paced, it has cool combat set pieces - including vertical combat, which is unorthodox for an FPS but makes sense in this game's world - and it is the only game which has made me care about a companion NPC. On top of all that, it isn't a drab grey and brown military shooter, haha. I am thoroughly enjoying it and I think it sets a new bar for the genre in terms of single-player experience. (of course, I also enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever, so what do I know, lol)

I think I can agree with you on the idea that a game ought to be greater than the sum of its unit parts. I don't think many games truly achieve this, regardless of console generation, though, and I am not sure that we have any more or less now than we ever did. Unrelated to that, I particularly agree on the criticism of game length, and this in particular is a big reason why I tend to stay in the sports game genre because I can get major mileage out of those titles.

Not only was the rumor overblown, but the reaction was too.

Good to see "confirmation" on actual blu-ray movie playback and not just for games.

I enjoyed BioShock Infinite a lot. I don't think the story was necessarily as good as Spec Ops: The Line because there were some pretty glaring holes.

It was a very fun play through, but I can't see myself going back to multiple times in the future like I do with other games.

As you can see , it really has a lot to do with when you grow up on gaming. 8 year used to mean a huge paradigm shift in gaming, where as today you wont see near the same gains as you used to.
Current generations started in November 2005, not 2002. Xbox 360 was the first console in this generation.

Rumor: Blu-ray licensing may delay next xbox.

A rumor from MondoXbox has surfaced claiming that Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Infinity (720, Fusion etc) may be delayed over licensing issues with Blu-ray. Originally the console was expected to arrive during the 2013 holiday season, but this latest report suggests that Microsoft may miss this lucrative window, and instead launch the highly-anticipated console in the first half of 2014.

The PS3 and the 360 are tremendous upgrades from the PS2 and the original XBox. Even after all these years the games look pretty good. It should be interesting to see how much of an upgrade we see for the new consoles in the first couple of years. I expect to be disappointed.

Expect a lot of F2P next-gen according to the Vice President of Epic Games.

"The next-gen consoles are going to be fully embracing the free-to-play and these IAP-type business models," Rein told the audience, "So in case you don't know that I'm putting that out there. Sony and Microsoft are both going heavily in that area."

If its free to play like DOTA or TF2 then I'm fine with it, since the only things you pay for are cosmetic. It's the pay to win games where you have to pay to unlock weapons or characters where things get dicey.
