Re: Xbox One
Since you lose the games if you leave plus, it really is a game rental system, but cool none the less.Joshua:

Nope, it's owned by Microsoft, and interestingly, they came to terms with Fox over letting each of their Killer Instinct trademarks coexist last month. KI would be really weird to bring back though.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Xbox One
What features does XBL have that PSN doesn't? This isn't release date PSN we are talking about.

Gotcha. Last I knew, when they first purchased Rare, they did not have the KI IP rights at the time.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Xbox One
Well every single console I've ever played in my life was that system. I could put in my game and play it. I didn't need to be online and I didn't need to pay some fee because someone owned it before I did, or because I'm borrowing it from a friend.
My issue is with that stuff - I could not possibly care less about any of the other functions. I didn't watch the conference, and I know nothing other than you have to pay to play a game not attached to your profile and you have to be online at least once a day in order to play any sort of game.
It may not be an issue for you - and that's wonderful, but some people don't like it. But, like I said - I'm not really upset about it either, because it's going to save me money; and the Indy gaming scene on the PC has been phenomenal lately... Enough so that I've hardly bought anything for my 360 in the last year or two anyway. Although, I do wish Spelunky would release the 360 version as a Windows game.
But you don't take away things gamers have been doing for the past 25 years."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: Xbox One
Microsoft has good security? That's an ugly conversation to have on any forum. TONS of people have been hacked on 360. There was a security hole that Microsoft wouldn't admit too that was finally plugged last year.Comment

Like mestevo said, this probably isn't the thread for this, but I have to put this out there... the reason behind it is a hardware limitation (RAM) of the PS3. However, technically it is a feature on PSN, as the PS Vita has cross-game party chat.

Re: Xbox One
my thoughts on a few of the things that came up:
1) used games; I understand the desire to get those dollars by developers and to a certain extend the console manufacturer - however I'm still blown away that it's going to happen in the way that they want for the most part.
I understand software is different than a lamp or a desk or a magic bullet. HOWEVER, I am actually a little mystified that the prospect of charging money for a 2nd hand buyer to play is even LEGAL! Where is the justification in all of this really? When I bought my used Jeep years ago, - did the maker get any money? NO! I just don't see why a game is any different. I remember selling all my old VHS's tapes in a garage sale and sort of wish I had done that with all my dvd's... how are games so fundamentally different than other products to be able to legally justify consumers paying for the same product twice.
A major thing to note here is their own justification that "those dollars belong to us" ... no they don't. The used buyer didn't care to buy your product when it was new at the new price, they wanted to buy it later when nobody cares anymore and get it way cheaper from someone who no longer cared to own it - thus transferring their ownership to the used guy. There is no NEW product being sold here, just someone else's undesired property.
Further to that, the real issue with $ being lost is not the secondary market. It's piracy, it begins and ends there for reals. If everyone paid for their copy of a game on xbox360 - would there be any revenue issues? No.
Finally - I'm aware of "licenses" and I'm aware I might not interpret "property" in the way the law currently does, but in the case that I am "wrong" I fundamentally disagree with it and think such a "law" might be fundamentally "unlawful" lol Currently I can buy a CD, listen to it for a month, and give it to my friend (or sell it to him) and he can do as he wishes with it.
I look at it like an ecosystem of sorts haha, I buy new games, I trade them in when I don't want them for credit towards more new games. The used guys who loves deals and don't need new stuff (I think lose out on fun times) complete the cycle. So if I can't sell my 'property' than I never actually own it do it and thus in a sense shouldn't pay for it as if I do (which is currently the case in terms of prices etc) An interesting thought is this could fuel piracy on a philosophical level and perhaps create new pirates? ...maybe.
** final note on that before I forget is every single game must have a demo and have a try before you buy aspect if they are going to get their way and kill the rental market!
2) Always online: I'm undecided literally. I see privacy issues, but also don't see the benefit. We really need it explained very clearly WHY it would be TOTALLY AWESOME to have it always be online. If there is no such justification...then there is no legit reason to do it - they may want to monitor us which is totally unreasonable and enough to get me to jump ship. Currently it's really unclear and confusing.
3) kinect - related to always online very intimately ... WHY? Microsoft needs to JUSTIFY to it's potential buyers WHY this is ESSENTIAL! I don't see any reason that it needs to be, and perhaps I shouldn't or can't yet because it's so early. But it's really something that makes me kind of fold my arms a bit and get defensive.
And on a more functional note - I had kinect and traded it in... the original one was messy with wires and I stopped using it, not on purpose but because I just was done with it. At first it's impressive but I felt like an arse hole barking "xbox open tray" ... like really? I live in a condo and thought how embarrassing if someone walked by my door at just the right time... Even forgetting that, it's a little weird ... I'm talking to my self essentially.... I'd rather say "computer...cold guinness" lol "xbox" it just makes me cringe - the minority report gestures have way more potential imo lol. It's more universal, cross cultural etc and less awkward.
4) minor note on EA - even if it wasn't pre-rendered, I didn't really look very impressive and if anything what "wowed" people from a production standpoint was the audio mix of sound effect and player sounds, as well as the camera angles giving it a film-like look or 'on the field' a-la backbreaker look. To be honest I'm surprised anyone was "wowed" reading some comments I was a bit put-off ... don't you expect more by now? Nothing looked like it couldn't be done right now to me. ANIMATION is where I want progress and AI! Graphics are nice, but even the ones we saw weren't jaw dropping ( or even close to it)
Overall I can see they want to wow people like they did with kinect 1, but from an actual functional point of view not much of it I saw I would use very often. I'd like voice-recognition-to-text for mssgs (which I didn't see) but other than that I play games and use netflix extensively. I also buy the odd UFC ppv and would enjoy all the sports apps to be cheaper and none to be region locked. Hockey night in Canada for the playoffs I've used as well. I don't want to skype while I'm watching sports and "snap" I do like being able to switch from games to TV fast though, but want it a step further and it not to be just cable but actual apps too. So for example I'm watching a football game through the NFL app, but want to continue my session of Trials Evolution during the half ... THAT is useful to me.
In the end, I'm not excited, not pissed off, but overall it's more of a "whatever" feeling which isn't good.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment
