The same if Sony came out and said the PS4 will have a region lock - that would be news.
Sony and MS keeping status quo may be worth noting just so the facts are out there, but IGN just proves their ignorance yet again by writing a stupid piece.Last edited by ubernoob; 05-28-2013, 03:38 AM.badComment

I guess a twitter campaign for #PS4usedGames caught the eye of Sony.
They responded with things like "we love our fans" and "PS4 fans are so compassionate" but actually said nothing.
I wonder how hard the hate hits PS4 when/if they have the same system.
Probably not as harsh IMO.GT: Event Horizon 0Comment

Re: Xbox One
Excellent article from Digital Foundry,
Digital Foundry presents evidence-based analysis on what Microsoft's cloud tech brings to the next era in console gaming.
With latency an issue, the scope for cloud computation is limited to a subset of game tasks. Okay, we can work with that, but we still have the last great consideration - bandwidth. So is there any evidence in the Xbox One spec that the cloud is integrated at a hardware level? Well, there are some compression/decompression engines but their efforts would in no way address the extremely low bandwidth available compared to the throughput of data around the console's internal architecture. When you play Battlefield 3 on your Xbox 360, do you have the equivalent power of a dozen Xbox 360s because the server is notionally that powerful? Microsoft's claims seem pretty wishy-washy against such a comparison, and without the explicit clarification that they are literally installing four teraflops of server power for each and every Xbox One bought, the claims of that power target can only be considered bogus PR hand-waving to try and detract from the performance deficit with their rival.
More factual, and intelligently written articles like this are needed to call MS's PR campaign out to explain the truth. I'm not interested in "the power of the cloud" theories. I want to know what is viable. The anti-consumer stance they are taking, coupled with their cloud power claims, have made MS earn MOST of the bad press they are taking since the reveal.Comment

LATENCY AND BANDWITH will both be huge challenges for MS to get around. There's nothing out there to suggest that they can overcome one, let alone, both challenges.

As far as that Sony campaign and any against MS goes, I do not think any of it will matter in Nov for either. Once they show a few must have games, people will sell out and forget about these issues. Just like the cell phones and loss of unlimited data, people will whine and moan, but in the end, have to get that new iPhone or Galaxy.Comment

I dont think everybody must have the new xbox this time though.
There are just far too many issues and questions out there. No im not calling it a flop or anything and I understand your point but, I wouldnt underestimate the ill will that has been created.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Here's some more info on being able to turn off the Kinect sensor and the microphone.
http://kotaku.com/xbox-ones-kinect-c...ting-510100564
"Microsoft is now seeking to calm concerns that the new Kinect might spy. "We are designing the new Kinect with simple, easy methods to customize privacy settings, provide clear notifications and meaningful privacy choices for how data will be used, stored and shared," the Microsoft rep told me.
"We know our customers want and expect strong privacy protections to be built into our products, devices and services, and for companies to be responsible stewards of their data. Microsoft has more than ten years of experience making privacy a top priority. Kinect for Xbox 360 was designed and built with strong privacy protections in place and the new Kinect will continue this commitment. We’ll share more details later."

Re: Xbox One
That might've been posted already but for the fact that they thought it was okay in the first place is more telling.
Yes the used games thing is an issue but its more on a simple level. People arent excited about paying extra fees, nor going through account checks for it on top of all of the other stuff. Its basically just piling on at this point.
The always on thing is true, and its not that part so much as it is being forced to have it that way no ifs ands or buts about it.
Trying to arrogantly do this type of reveal, then backtrack later...might be too late. Too many already see it as some kind of cable box add on that plays games...they shouldn't have presented it the way they did, but thats what they gave off.
Just too much confusion going on here about this system and no telling what potential headaches it presents, and for what reason?Comment

Re: Xbox One
Yeah and at this point they have left a really bad taste in everyones mouth from the reveal that its going to take alot to change peoples minds. Microsoft goes first at e3 so they have a chance to make up for the crap they have done but also if they do even more stupid things at e3 then they are screwed. Sony goes last at e3 and that is great for them because they get a chance to be the last thing people see at e3.Comment

Coming out and saying first and foremost during the reveal, 1) We know there is ton of rumor about always having to be online for console to work. This is not entirely true, currently it requires a once a day connection but we are looking into other means to help customers who don't have solid internet. 2) There is speculation that used games will be removed this coming generation. This is not true at all, we have consulted gamestop and other retail used game outlets to make sure used games stay a large part of this coming generation. 3) There is rumors the kinect must be connected for the system to operate. Well this true to a regard, think of the kinect as a part of the system no differently than the controller. It is a required part of the system, BUT we are taking every measure to make sure those who wish to not use the kinect or for those who want privacy options. You will be able to turn the kinect off and/or disable many options to make sure your privacy is up to your standards.
These simple acknowledgements would of look as if they had a clue of what we wanted. Instead it took prying and bitching/moaning online for them to openly address these concerns. That to me does not look good, whether their intentions from the get go where these actions. Doing so after the flak they received for not acknowledging it off the jump just looks like they where attempting something shady and I think others feel the same way.
A lot of people I've seen say things like "You are just upset over the principle" or "You are only upset with the principle". They say this like it is not a valid complaint or you can't be upset with a principle. Our entire society and culture is built on principles. So to speak as if being upset with the "principle" behind it is not worthy seems odd to me. Every day moral values are built on principles and often are how we live our lives based of these principles. So for people to be upset with these "principle" issues (kinect spying issue: Why force it on us, or internet connection required issue: Can be made not to exist) clearly shows that they are very important to the buyers. So for MS to nonchalantly "fail to mention" these issues I think can potentially hurt them extremely bad in the near future when people view the ethics of the situation as something they don't respect.Last edited by Phobia; 05-28-2013, 02:46 PM.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Eucalyptus has one of the better explanations of what a cloud is that I point developers to for a good/quick explanation. If you're still a little confused, read the following:
The SaaS is the end goal, and requires the first two in order to provide the basic tenants of a cloud offering.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I've been a xbox faithful and hated the PS3 but yes I'm one of those that the bad taste they have left with me during all these "fail to mention" issues, they have pushed me away and that I will be going PS4 only this coming generation. MS could of prevented all of this with a solid gameplan and awareness of what the populaces wants.

I do see that point though because if it really (honestly) doesn't impact me at all then why should I get all worked up about it?
I've decided to wait until MS (and Sony, who have told us pretty much nothing in detail about their console) give us more clear information (which does seem to be forthcoming).Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I'm mostly mad at the way this gen shook out because I wanted to grab both systems, but can't support MS doing this (just like I can't support the steaming pile that is Windows 8.) I hate not having all the systems available to me but that's just the way life goes sometimes.badComment
