72 hour check-in would be so much better.

Re: Xbox One
The 24-hour login requirement is just something I don't understand. It's not anything that would affect me, as I'm usually always connected anyway but I'm not a big fan of policies being forced upon me, especially when they are not necessary.Currently Playing:

Re: Xbox One
If its downloaded and installed on the HDD (or you have the physical disk). Is a completely single player game. Does not rely on the cloud for computing. I don't understand why constant connection is necessary for those games. Its like I have to keep proving I own the ****ing game on a daily basis and still they limit access to it.
I'm curious how the games are gonna be priced.

Re: Xbox One
From a PR standpoint they should try and mix in some good news with the bad when they drop bombs like this. When they announce 24 hour connection checks and a restricted aftermarket they should follow it up with how it benefits their customers. Maybe they could have said something like games will be $59 MSRP with aftermarket restrictions and $75 without.
It seems like they are trying to get all the bad news out first and then let the games lure us in. I would love to know what they are thinking behind the scenes because this bad news dump is Arch Deluxe bad. Microsoft gives the perception that they take their customers for granted.Comment

It's not easy to feed someone crap and have them thank you for it. My point is that a different tone might be more effective.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Example: 24 hour connection checks are requried at the request of game publishers. Game publishers are losing millions of dollars because people are illegally pirating their games. 24 hour connection checks will reduce the losses by game developers and the industry as a whole by making it harder to copy and illegally distribute games. Xbox users will benefit because of the additional revenue will reduce the cost of Xbox 1 games and it will make the indie gaming community much healthier than the previous generation.
It's not easy to feed someone crap and have them thank you for it. My point is that a different tone might be more effective.
They can spin it all they want to but this is no different than any other corporation. There is no benefit to you as a consumer because of this, let alone the other issues it brings that have been noted too many times already.
Its all about their bottom line.
Don't do something like this intentionally then talk to people like they're stupid... its a bad precedence being set here.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Bolded for emphasis. You are screwed if their servers are down. You are screwed if for some reason your broadband connection is down for more than 1 day. Last year during one of the hurricanes my area got hit with, I had no internet access for almost a week but I had electricity. I wouldve been pissed if I couldnt play my games during that period.
Still having a hard time understanding how Microsoft gave the green light for this.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I laugh that pirating is costing them millions. It's a pain in the *** to mod your console normally, or there's a decently hefty charge involved if you don't want to screw around with soldering stuff. It's really not costing them that much.badComment

Pirates can and will find a way around the 24 hour connectivity. They aren't doing anything but making the lives of normal everyday users more difficult.NFL: Green Bay Packers
MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
NBA: Denver Nuggets
NHL: Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins
NCAA: Air Force Falcons, Penn State Nittany LionsComment

Re: Xbox One
As far as Kinect goes, what happens if it breaks or doesn't function properly? They say that I can cut Kinect off and that will shut off my xbox and all the stuff about privacy options but I need to know what happens if it breaks. Will I still be able to play as long as I can physically plug it into the console even though it may not function properly? Or am I required to go buy one every time it stops working or breaks?
That is my biggest issue because i have a 4 year old son and he finds ways to break everything around the condo. Yes, this is a hypothetical but it is a likely risk for me and I can't afford to shell out $100 or more for Kinect just to play games."This is for all of my peoples who understand and truly recognize. If anything, they'll direct their energy towards XBL trying to "take it down" and laugh as all the XBone players can't play their games. Partially for laughs, partially to show MS how monumentally epic this failure of a decision is.badComment

Re: Xbox One
I think it's Microsoft asking for too much control over how we game.
This isn't the Sega Dreamcast or a standard PC game. It's not a widespread epidemic where there's enough damage to warrant some gimmick like this.
It's basically saying "We're going to let you pay several hundred dollars for a device to play video games at home, but we still require you to check in with us by connecting once every 24 hours so we can monitor what the hell you are doing. If you don't, we won't allow you to play games on the console you just paid several hundred dollars for".
It's okay though, you can still use this device as a ****ing DVR.
That's just an insulting way to present this idea to gamers. They aren't giving gamers enough credit for how well we know the industry and their tendencies. If it's to benefit gamers in the long run, why not make it known ?
If I was a kid and my mother was buying this thing for me on Christmas, she would see that it requires an online connection and then not buy it.
Same with the people in the military who aren't always guarenteed the internet. Hell, I take my PS3 and 360 to the lake sometimes and we're not always guarenteed internet. We have to rely on a cell phone hot spot and the signal is really shady so you never know how that's going to go.
I just can't stress enough how much I don't like this and how I hate Microsoft trying to treat gamers like they are complete idiots. Be real, up front, and honest with us and it will go so much farther.
If It wasn't for the fact that competition helps the gaming industry, I would be perfectly fine with this whole thing crashing and burning.Comment
