I'd also imagine that publishers would get a percentage of that charge. It would be excellent if, after your trial runs out, you could buy the full game by paying off the rest of the price -- so if a full game is $60, you only have to pay another $54 or $55 to keep it.

We'll see in a few days hopefully.
They would charge you more than 5 bucks to rent their games for 5 days.

Them creating a rental service (like gamefly) would be a direct result of nobody buying their games over a very long period of time. See the music industry and services like Spotify. We're not to that point yet.

I could only imagine the arm twisting GS and GF would go though to get those rights from MS, and possibly(probably) Sony. MS was ready to charge a 100% value fee for users who bought used X1 games. They realized how crazy that sounded and canned that already.

I just think that what MS is doing is trying to usher in the age of digital sooner (which is coming no matter what). It is more restrictive, and people are complaining.

I'd just prep for eventually everything to be digital. This isn't going away.
Nothing will ever be purely digital.

People like to collect and own their things. See: SNES eBay auctions. Cost of old games that aren't made anymore. The people buying them could just as easily download an emulator and download the game without worries - but they don't.

Like I've said before. MS is looking at data but not the people part of the equation. They did the same thing with Windows 8. Tablets and smart phones are booming, but people don't want their ****ty Metro UI even though the data suggests that they would since the numbers say that the increase in tablet/phone sales show that an increasing number of people are using/interested in using them.

Though there are people who are probably positive about it that will probably be accused of being these people as well.

I'll prob own both anyway however the main reason alone that influences me towards Xbox is the controller. Sony continues to use that ****ty controller design that just bugs the hell out of me. I hate the stick layout and how it feels in my hands, maybe the PS4 one will feel different however I don't that since its been basically the same since PS1. I'm hoping that my PS3 to 360 controller converter still works on the PS4. That and companies like dice that don't give you a option between using L2/R2 instead of L1/R1 for stuff, mainly shooters.

Four things I want to know at E3:
              1. Basic black and white details about each Xbone feature ranging from the used games to other features.
              2. Kickass games and new IP's.
              3. Whether Sony is going to try to kill GameStop as well with their service and features as well.
              4. Super Smash Brothers (lol)

              Edit: I guess 5.
              5. Prices

I disagree to some extent. People don't give a crap about CD's nowadays.

People like to collect old crap, not new crap. People don't hoard PS3 games, they want NES ones. Toy and card collectors don't make money on new toys it's all the old ones.

I'm a happy PC gamer and I haven't bought a game disc for PC in years.

Give it time and they will. Good PS1 and PS2 games go for a premium now.

For console games, I hope the disc format never goes away (until we get the next step in technology.) People still want stuff they can hold in their hands and say "I own this."

I don't know enough to speak for everyone, but Steam works because everything is super cheap on there and they don't do BS restrictions. You connect to the internet once (to activate the game) and obviously if you want to download updates. That's it.

Yep many companies do it. However it also could be a BS story cooked up.

                            Re: Xbox One

I'm only buying 1 new gen console. I still have an original XBox, Wii and PS3. Never bought a 360. I've been thinking about getting an Xbox One for Kinect, although that would not be be sole gaming focus. This latest news is a real turnoff and may eliminate the Xbone from my consideration.

Individually, most of the restrictions are not a big deal.
                            - I have a broadband connection, so other than a rare event I would be able to connect every 24 hours.
                            - I want Kinect, so having it on all the time is no big deal.
                            - Used games. If reselling becomes a hassle, I simply won't buy as many games. I'm already getting picky about what I buy because I don't want to deal with the hassle (and fees) of selling my games on Amazon or Ebay. I do buy a lot of games used, so depending on what the final rules are this may become a pain for me.
                            - No backward compatibility. Don't own any 360 games, but it is disappointing that I won't be able to pick up some older games cheap while the Xbone builds up a library.
                            - Push towards digital. I like to have the physical games, but digital works....for a while. What happens to my digital library when the XB2 comes out?

Together these signs point to a more restrictive experience. This I don't like, even if I am fine with most of the individual restrictions. I especially don't trust the long term consequences of having to log in every 24 hours in order to play a game. At some point they will shut down the servers and what happens then? Do all my games become useless? I'm may not want to take that chance, as I still play a number of games on my original XBox (Battlefront, X-Men Legends, NBA Street 2, MotoGP, Motocross ,etc...).

I think people's needs and wants are still way more varied than we may want to believe they are. Sometimes it seems easy to see popular trends and assume the trend preceding it is dead and the new popular push is bound to be the only thing. Sometimes that's the case, but often it's not. It'd be like accepting reality television as the future of TV entertainment because it's obviously so popular.

I am just one person (and my friends and family make up just a few more people) but we all still purchase CD's. We recognize that itunes exists and we use that program for purchases at times for single songs or albums we kind of like but don't really like. For my primaries though, I still like having something physical. I like the disc, I like the cover art, I like it all. It's like buying a book versus reading it on a Kindle.

I think I'm a little more okay with digital copies of my music because I know I have those files copied all over the place, they're not dependent upon an online service and if all else fails, I most often still have a hard copy I could rely upon. Nothing can stop me from listening to the music I own. It seems at least a little less simple with the new proposed form of XBox gaming and it is something I do not favor, nor do I feel it will be accepted as favorably as the introduction of digital music.

I hope that with everyone upset and saying they won't buy the Xbox One, that getting one at launch will be easy. I'm excited for what's next, especially if they move to a more digital format. Connecting every 24 hours does not bother me at all, however I think it's crappy for people that do not have stable Internet or the Internet at all. As for used games, I don't buy them and if they have digital downloads then I won't clutter my house with games and therefore will not have to trade in my old games. I love it. I'm ready for the next generation.
I am the lesson after the fall.
