      DirecTV seemed pretty straight forward

And it didn't work with Google TV initially, not because of incompatibilities per se, but because DirecTV said no. It's kind of a Two way street the way I understand it and it's as much providers also have to be on board - They may have stated as much at E3 (i'm not sure, I didn't really follow it as much as the initial reveal) of who's on board

First page of posts is pretty good and seem like people know what they're talking about and discussing.. After that , it gets a lot like this thread

I had a Revue at launch, DirecTV worked fine. DirecTV isnt going to support or do anything for Xbox One, it isnt their product and it should work either way. MS will license guide data just like DirecTV does and control the box via IR. No support from them is needed.

I think you are misunderstnding what they are asking/answering.

Ok.. I'll take your word for it and trust YOU - Apparently, I'm mistaken to think that an unnecessary amount of video gamers (you know the MARKET for a video game console) are upset with some of the business decisions of these geniuses who know exactly what they're doing. Hell, even the people that are going to purchase this system can't give precise details on what they are or are not doing. So in that case, if not Idiots, then their snakes.

Some of these quotes dont scare you?

Current plan is basically you're ****ed after 24 hours. Yeah... I know. Kind of sucks. I believe they will probably revist the time period and / or find a diff way to "call in" to ensure you haven't sold your license to gamestop or something... but there is no plan YET. I'm hoping the change it, but I don't work on that so I don't have much influence there /sigh

I thought there would be no or little restrictions on selling used games? Why would MS care about a person selling its game license to Gamestop if used games are able to be sold.

Also, the guy seemed to be talking out of his *** a little. The Steam model sounds great in practice but how are you going to cut out the retailers. Video games are a big part of electronic sales at Best Buy, Target and Walmart. Eliminating Discs eliminates a big source of revenue from those retailers.

He's also overrestimating how much people hate putting in discs. If I made a list of the top 50 things that annoy me about consoles, putting in a disc wouldnt even make the list. Scratched discs stopped being an issue after MS allowed ppl to install the game to the hard drive.

Being upset with the business decisions does not make them idiots. Like I said, they have a plan. Much larger and more trivial than just servicing gamers.

The question of ethics is what really comes into play. And considering MSFT's antitrust history, this should not shock anyone.

They were in no position to institute such draconian policies until they were a household name and had a large market share.

It is a part of their original plan since the Web TV days.

Maybe it's so you can't keep playing the game from the "cloud" or your hard drive after you've sold the game back? Past that I have no clue.

If MS/Sony/Publishers want to play the "You're only purchasing licenses for the game, not the software" then I will gladly host every big AAA game from money grubbing publishers for everyone to download. I'm not letting them download the license from me, only the software which is free anyways since we are only purchasing the license.

They're business decisions don't really upset me. They've upset a lot of people apparently just from the reaction. And ethics in question or not those business decisions have basically UNSOLD consoles - So I don't see how it couldn't be idiotic or misleading given actual response from consumers who don't support it right now. And quite frankly, likely won't in the future unless something drastic changes, and if nothing changes the Television watching audience isn't going to buy $500 "game Console" just for it's Tv watching interface overlapping a cable service they still have to pay for when the cable companies and televisions are already delivering motion and voice control for watching Tv. Ironically one of them is called X1. And the gaming audience, we've seen firsthand the negative reaction.

I'm likely wrong - But right now I just don't see how this fits any market segment at the price and requirements of the system as it stands. And I think it could have fit one or more very easily Again, I think it's going to be a great machine with some cool games - But that's getting lost in the shuffle of stupid decisions and the suits speaking only make things worse or more ambiguous.

Do not underestimate the power of marketing. I would love to see this bite them in a rear, not only as a gamer, but also as one who advocates privacy and ownership of purchases.

Not knock them out of the business, but to turn back these policies. Sadly people like shiny objects, and will still buy enough for it to not change drastically.

The used games thing is a cluster**** and I'm shocked MS appears to be creating this policy on the fly. According to this article's speculation, the individual publishers will work out a deal with each individual retailer on whether you can sell a game used.

                            That is a ****ing mess.

Wow, I missed that purchased DLC will be shared along w/ the game under the family/friend sharing stuff.

Is the family thing different from the "multiple accounts on the same xbox accessing/sharing the same stuff?"

I just cannot see MS allowing "family" across the country to share games and DLC.
