Re: Xbox One
I remember, 8 years ago now, when MS announced that the 360 would only allow broadband connections for LIVE.
There was alot of "OMG screw M$ I want to game on my 56k, its fine for Realz!" and "OMG you have to be soo Rich to play OMG"
Look how that turned out, and that was when broadband was truly in its infancy.
If you need to check in, Hotspot your phone and continue on. Its a pain, but something that will, in all honestly, probably be needed a few times a year.YNWAComment

Re: Xbox One
I don't take issue with Xbox personally, I just won't buy it - I agree. But I don't see your reality. The average age of Gamers is getting older (Late 20's to mid 30's) because we've grown up in Atari, Nes, console days. As part of that demographic, it's pretty simple 1.) console, 2.) put game in console , 3.) play. That's not changing, the "social aspects" are cool but this demographic aren't blowing up twitter, instagram, and facebook - Frontier city doesn't interest us and neither do a lot of the "it" phone games ...
The gaming industry is changing for those that were/are not Hardcore gamers, that's one thing I think you and Xbox are missing. The lite/hardcore gamer majority isn't changing, and xbox one with a higher price, restrictions, and being television remote control isn't enough to majorly CHange this group of gamers - Which is an issue because if gamers are turning away from a GAMING CONSOLE, why in the world would a family, or casual gamer, non gamer pay more to purchase it? I think that's the issue that is being missed by some here that think it's as easy as "Well, online doesn't bother me, so either get on board or jump".. You're not realists, you're delusional in the market and delusional in the reality of internet connectivity/quality across the nation.
And when a lot of people take issue and question Xbox, the only reaction is "That's just the way it's going to be, go play your 360. There is a vision that you can't see in which Microsoft is pursuing" . Yet, I've not heard what this magical vision is with DRM, Online Connecting, Kinect and how that benefits gamers, or anyone for that matter ?Comment

Re: Xbox One
You are underestimating the fact that if more people vote with their wallets, the change stops. If PS3 outsells XB1 3 to 1 or 2 to 1, no way MS keeps those same policies. If they are stubborn and they do, Sony will be hesitant to adopt those policies when they were part of the reason they were able to get a lead in console sales.
What I don't think will happen is it will be as large as people think. MS has a couple of things in their favor.
1- Games
2- XBL Service
Those 2 things will keep sales close even if they choose to not change somethings that have come out.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I never used Steam before, but I imagine when you launch the application you need to sign into your account? Does that not require an internet connection to log into your account? If so that would basically be the same thing right?Comment

Re: Xbox One
Games? I think it'll be a wash for both systems as I don't see MS abandoning their FPS and gunplay franchises and multiplayer bases. Personally I've grown tired of those games and look forward to Sony's more varied approach to games.
Other than playing multiplayer online I don't see the greatness of XBL that would keep me from going to something else.
Joette - you can play Steam games offline.

Re: Xbox One
If my primary gaming area is small, and I have a coffee table in my man cave, how much "room" will this new Kinect need. I borrowed my brother in laws a few months ago, and we had to move couches the coffee table and push the TV back, just to get it to register us. Not ideal in our current small town house.Moderator

Old Kinect had a minimum distance of almost 3 feet, and the Windows version had a Near Mode that reduced it to under 2.
You can get an idea of how wide the camera is from this video: http://gizmodo.com/kinect-2-full-vid...like-509155673 - at 0:24 that guy looks to be maybe 4 feet from it and it can see him head to toe, which is a pretty big improvement over the first I think. (note: i havent watched this video all the way through, or with sound)
All I know is that old Kinect always seemed to need a few more inches (thats what she said) than I could give it and that contributed to it just being relegated to it's most useful function: "Xbox, next episode" rather than the occasional 'oh hey, im going to pretend like I can stick to this new fitness game...'Last edited by mestevo; 06-18-2013, 11:45 AM.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I personally am not underestimating the possibility of Sony out selling MS in NA. I expressed that to Phobia a couple pages back when he asked the question. I believe Sony will probably outsell MS in NA.

1- Games
2- XBL Service

If all games are pretty much the same, the system with the lower price and better PR will typically sell more.
Now maybe its just me but I dont get how XBL is that much of a difference maker either. I was one of the first people to use XBOX Live (OS was invited to try it out on MS's campus almost a decade ago and I was one of the people who went) and I've had it since its inception and like it. With that said, the reason I have it is because my friends have it. All of the features, I care about (with the exception of the UFC app) are available on PSN (Netflix, Friends list, Chat added with the PS4). So if most of my friends are moving from Live to PSN, I'm more likely to do the same thing. I think most people are like that too.Comment

I agree with you whole heartedly about the games. I would prefer the shooters be made by the people at Dice. Sony has some pretty great exclusives themselves.YNWAComment

Re: Xbox One
Also, not that it will be a console mover or anything, but this is one of the reasons for people being upset with ms.
Why Oddworld is Coming to Every Platform Except XBox
“For Xbox One they’ve granted us a license for New ‘n’ Tasty! but they still say you need a publisher. We don’t have a publisher so we’re not officially on the platform, even though we’re compatible, even though we’ll be ready to do it. Period.
“Why do we need a publisher when we self-finance our games, we build our own IP, we manage our own IP and we’ve turned nearly two million units online as indie publishers sold – not free downloads? Why? What’s wrong with us?”badComment
