Which, given the "flop" that the WiiU and such ended up being is a damn smart idea to grab the market share available.

It does leave us "hardcore" (I use that word not in the real hardcore gamer sense, but in the we're on a message board talking about video games and systems sense) gamers wanting more, though.

Here's the thing though. A Kinect or PSEye won't grab them back. Ever.

The WiiU is a failure because it's seen as superfluous to the Wii. The casual crowd MS is chasing is a pipe dream for MS/Sony. They will be with Nintendo still with the Wii and 3DS (not to marginalize either of those. The 3DS is something everyone should own and the Wii has some of the best games for even the hardcore crowd if you are talking about RPGs.)

MS chasing (at least, making their major focus) Nintendo in that market share is as silly as Sony thinking their handhelds will compete with Nintendo's over the years. Anyone that I personally knew with a PSP got it specifically for PSX emulation because a handheld PS1 is way better than what the PSP/Vita has ever had to offer.

I agree with that. Don't think it's going to work, but it's a smart idea to try, especially given MS's business model of trying to be an all-inclusive home entertainment system for the entire family. Leaves it lacking for those of us that don't want it and, you're right, they'll never steal the Nintendo fan base because they don't have Mario, Zelda, etc.

Just wanted to mention that it's only missing two console exclusives: Minecraft and State of Decay. Minecraft was a pretty big omission from the image, but it's since been announced for PS3/PS4/Vita, so now only State of Decay is missing.

Edit: Also, fun fact, Sony's been trying to make peripherals for the casual crowd for multiple generations now. They had a camera all the way back for the PS2 in the EyeToy and around the same time they made that, they also started developing motion controls (before even the Wii), even though most people were under the impression that Sony was just copying Nintendo. The Move was initially designed for the PS2, but the internal sensors they used in the controllers didn't become affordable until around the time the Wii came out.

Edit2: Sorry, I forgot about Toy Soldiers, so that's another game that's missing which is console exclusive for the 360.

It's missing more than that. I can name Alan Wake and Tropico 4 off the top of my head without thinking about it at all.

Not to mention if you look at the actual exclusives rather than the raw numbers. Xbox still runs out with a very strong package. Halo 4, GoW3, and Forza; trash anything except MLB: The Show that Sony has put out (In terms of game sales not necessarily quality).
              PSN: KMRBlue1027

              PS4 Games:
              Battlefield 4
              MLB: The Show (Duh)
              Destiny

Ah you're right. I'll look for a more accurate list. That's what I get for relying on this Wikipedia list. Those two weren't even mentioned at all.

This list a bit more complete: Metro 2033, Splinter Cell Conviction, DarkStar One, Gothic 4, Fable 3, Divinity 2, Witcher 2, Dark, Omerta: City of Gangsters. As well as the two you mentioned.

Console exclusives missing from the PS3 list: DC Universe Online, White Album, BlazBlue, Final Fantasy XIV, Kingdom Under Fire II, Papo & Yo, Strength of the Sword.

I don't think you know anything about game sales if you think The Show is the PS3 exclusive that moves the needle.

The Show has never sold 1 million copies. They came close in 06, but no cigar.

The Last of Us is already over 3 million. Uncharted 2 was at 6.24 million. Uncharted 3 was at 6.02 million.

Gears of War 2 sold 6.64 million. Gears 3 sold 5.94 million. Halo 4 sold 8.5 million.

Forza 4 sold about 4 million. Forza Horizon sold about 1.5 million. Gran Turismo 5 sold 10.55 million. Hell, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue sold 4.13 million.

Don't compare the 360/PS3 numbers based on what you think may be true... It shows that you're wrong. GT5 outsold Halo 4 pretty handily.

I'm still hoping that Black Tusk brings it with what they've invested there. Also, MS is sitting on some things that would appease a lot of people if they would just unshackle Rare or let someone else handle the IPs like they are with Killer Instinct.

Even then, I'm hoping they pull out more creativity in their new IPs this gen. Things like Project Spark make me excited. I'm just hoping for more non-Kinect AAA games.

Also, I think one thing will always handicap the Xbox is that its exclusives are more likely to show up on PC as well (non-indies).

The big Black Tusk game looks like some type of Splinter Cell-type stealth/shooter.

Microsoft has a very good grip on the FPS market... I just don't trust them to do anything else with their console.

I don't think Rare will ever recover to what it once was. The industry has changed too much and they were hurt by all the talent that left, moving to other parts of Microsoft or leaving the company completely. It's basically an empty shell of itself which is currently dedicated to making only Kinect games, and that is really unfortunate.

I'd love for Microsoft to resurrect Viva Pinata, though, because that was (in my opinon) Rare's best game. They could even integrate Kinect in it. Maybe move some stuff around with hand motion or make noises/yell to scare creatures away.

I still have the One preordered but not too sure if I still want it. I need to figure it out. In the meantime, if anyone needs a One and can't preorder, I'll gladly reship next day same price.

Have to break down exclusives and see if having both is worth it.

We could never buy games for the One and not regret the purchase due to the TV stuff. It's nice knowing that after watching the wii fad die and our PS3 collect dust for years outside of the rare game and occasional Blu-ray.

This is true...however, do I need Gold for most of these features?

Some, not all, even if all we end up getting out of the unit is Xbox 360 functionality plus the HDMI passthrough it easily justifies the 35 dollars a year.

We watch more more TV and netflix than video games, the ps4 will probably be most of the video gaming, and even still the Xbox One would get more use.
