Gears of war is a frenetic, twitch-based third person shooter.

Not a story driven action-adventure game.

        It's not splitting hairs.

Gears of War attracts the same demographic Halo attracts.

Microsoft needs their XBOne exclusives to attract a larger, more varied demographic.

You are absolutely splitting hairs. Then following it up with facts that have no basis.

Gears is very story driven. Especially the early ones and no matter how much you want to dress it up last of us is a third person perspective shooter. Not as much shooting as gears but it's there. And it uses a similar cover system. Halo and gears are very different. That's sort of obvious. The only reason they might attract the same demographic is because they are both Microsoft exclusives.

Honestly, I'd be pleased as punched if both of those E3 lineups were mostly legit.
Yeah. That list though I don't see some names of games that MS has already filed patents for like Secrets and Treasure, Eden Falls and I can't remember the other two. I'm thinking these would be new IP's for them. I'd definitely be pleased if the lists were legit. I'd love a Perfect Dark 3rd Person game. Also with the Gears of War mention on that list, unless that name simple refers to a trailer that will be shown it is completely false as Rod Ferguson just said in the pod/rodcast last night that they don't even have a name for the game yet. But I really do hope that Samaritan thing is true though along with Phantom Dust.

Lastly, I agree with your statement in another post and have been saying it since December. MS's only way out of this is they really have to strengthen their 1st party support with strong quality titles that include Gears and Halo, but that reaches beyond them and pull gamers into other types of experiences. I really think MS should have kept their sports division. They could use a baseball game.

I don't think he's talking about the "content" of those games though. I think he's talking about the person each of those games are designed to pull in, namely the 18 and over male gamer. Content wise yes, Gears and Halo are different, but they both try to pull in the male testosterone driven gamer.

Not worth the explanation to someone that thinks they're marketed at different core audiences, but thanks

What is last of us designed to pull in? 30+ females? Pretty sure it's targeting the same audience as gears.

I never mentioned the audiences at all. Just mentioned gameplay. You should explain your stances better.

Although the audience argument in general is splitting hairs itself. You are crazy if you don't think the majority of games are aimed at the 18+ male gamer.

You both are right. The average gamer has gotten older over the years, but many products (not just video games) have special interests in hooking in the young and impressionable. Its no different for video games than it is for mcdonalds or disney. Most of those 35 year old gamers are gamers because they got hooked at a younger age and theyve been customers ever since.
