I felt I had to say the commands pretty loudly at first, I then recalibrated and now I feel I don't need to be very loud at all. The trick was with turning the volume up "louder than normal." Normal on my tv is around 15. The first time I had it in the 35 range when calibrating. The 2nd time I did it at the max of 50. Has been much more responsive since doing that and very rarely have to repeat a command.

Hopefully it wasn't placebo! I know nothing else changed unless the last software update helped in some way. All I know is now the only time I have issues (other than the occasional repeat) is if there are other people in the room talking.

Regarding Xbox On, a few things to call out.
1) They are always trying to do things to improve accuracy of voice commands, so it's possible that it gets improved over time.
2) Re-calibrating with the volume uncomfortably high is a good idea
3) I have the most success when I pretend my Xbox is a dog: Assertively say "Xbox" [Pause ~1 second] "On".

Xbox On is only detected via Kinect pre-processing, while the other commands have the power of the console behind them, which is why it's harder for some.

The best story I've heard is from a guy on our beta. He can walk in the front door, yell "Xbox On" and his Xbox (40 feet away) will turn on. His wife will stare at it and scream, and it doesn't work. It seems to all be about the cadence at which you say it. Some of us just seem to be Xbox Whisperers.

Yeah, you need Gold to access them from what I've read...They had to do that in order to compete with PS+, otherwise they offer less quality games and people complain.

It's a shame that people don't use the Kinect. Once the phrases and cadence are used appropriately it's damn near perfect. I haven't used a remote control in months.

Yeah I hear you. I'm 54 and just don't get into playing games unless I'm using the controller. I also just don't care to talk to my gaming console nor do I want go run my tv through it. I just want to play video games.

The PS4 also has voice command , I tried it , works good, but I won't use it again.

So I'm curious...what does everyone think is a realistic megaton MS could drop at e3 that would get everyone talking?

Mine would be Fallout 4 announced during their PC with an agreement similar to COD...timed DLC, "lead platform", etc.
