Through eight months, BOTH consoles have been a disappointment exclusives wise for me personally. I dont own an Xbox One but will eventually. Currently, Ryse: Son of Rome is the ONLY exclusive that I have any interest in playing until Quantum Break. The rest are crap in my opinion. PS4 isnt any different. Knack was the only exclusive that I wanted to play and while it was a solid 8/10 plat-former, it wasnt anything special or a must buy.
I keep seeing people say that Xbox One's exclusives are better but in this regard, it's all about personal preference. I have no interest in Halo MCC or Halo 5 so both of those games do nothing for me. I already played The Last Of Us a year ago but will be buying it again as there's simply nothing else to play on either console and with The Evil Within being delayed until October, I figured that I mine as well buy and play it again as its easily a 9/10 game.
The Last Of Us Remastered will increase the PS4 sales just like Halo MCC will do for Xbox One. I think that evens out. 2014 is pretty much the year of third party games as there's no top tier major exclusives except for the two I just mentioned. 2015 will be all about PS4. The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne will sell good and Uncharted 4 will blow away anything Xbox One has net year. And for those who say that there's been too man Uncharted games, Halo has been milked more.
Next year's E3 will determine if Xbox One hangs around or gets buried. I have confidence in Phil Spencer but at the same time, im pretty sure that the "corporate suits" will get in his way.
Overall, both consoles have been a disappointment thus far in regards to exclusives but PS4 is the better built console, easier to develop for (basically, the opposite of PS3 vs 360) and has a lot more exclusive content for the major top tier games. Add in PSN and Indie games and thus far, it's not even close.
Microsoft screwed themselves over by being $100 more for a stupid add on that is nothing more than a gimmick and should be killed off. Why, you ask? Because add-ons dont work in the long term. Just ask Sega. All those reversals a year ago also screwed themselves over by pissing off their own fan base which made no sense whatsoever.
I may come off as a PS fanboy but I actually preferred 360 (which I still own) over PS3 but this generation seems to be following in the PS2/Xbox era. In general, the exclusives for Xbox One are nothing special or must buys. Same with PS4. In the end, it's all about personal preference and for me, Xbox One has only ONE exclusive that I want to play with their next exclusive being over a year away.
