Sports games are just not the same without custom audio and I am hopeful this first step by MS to add the media player and latter DLNA will give us this feature back at least for one of the consoles.

If MS would male their music service $5 month and play completely in the background I'd subscribe...but they don't...

I got a splitter from work to run TV thru my One today and was very impressed. Picture quality was solid and the snap feature really shines with it. I was one of the early critics on the One due to the whole earlier fiasco, but was curious and had to get one. I got no use out of it from March till a few weeks ago, but these latest updates have made a huge difference. Really excited in the direction the console is going now and with the developers getting out of that honeymoon period, we should be in for a treat for year 2 and beyond.

Frequent updates, that include new features (like the media player and DLNA) are a huge selling point for the One. It means your investment becomes more useful - I'm really glad I stuck with the brand.

          Xbox One

I read this article on Engadget with Phil Spencer and thought this part was good. They are asking about the idea of having Cortana for the One...

"I think we get permission to do that as we succeed as a gaming console," Spencer said. The Xbox pivot isn't over, clearly, and Spencer and co. are still worried about alienating the Xbox "core" audience in favor of the general public. "It makes sense that I can get up in the morning and say 'Xbox, what's the traffic' and it brings up something that shows my commute in the morning," Spencer said. "That all makes sense to me in the long run."

You really see his leadership there in knowing that would be great but still concerned that some will think they are pulling away from gaming. As for me, I never believed they were doing that to begin with and really like the additions they've made outside of gaming. I look forward to its future.

When I stream DLNA music/video it's able to be snapped.

Just hit the XBox button to get to the dashboard, press start on the main screen, and select snap. I agree music should be able to be played in the background though.

By the way BubbleUPnP is an awesome smartphone app to control your DLNA devices if you got music/video/photos stored on your network.

EDIT: Nevermind - DLNA uses Xbox Music/Xbox Video. It doesn't work for Media Player. Media Player is very one dimensional IMO.

I wonder now if MS is kicking themselves for not calling Kinect Cortana. And, I wonder if that is in the cards.

Really love the media player update. I have alot of movies on my computer that I can now stick onto a USB stick... any USB stick, plug it in and play them. Up until now I've been using my 360 still to do this, glad I can now use the One. May seem insignificant to some, but to me, this feature is huge, and I love it.

Can us in the US do TV streaming to smartglass in the preview program? Wasn't sure how to do it if it's even there

No, the PR team kind of buried it in the description and the bold text just said "Stream TV to SmartGlass."

The SmartGlass streaming is only for the USB tuner for now. I want to talk through reasons...but the product isn't out yet, and it's not my job to do PR pre-release.

Any chance we'll be able to get the Xbox to switch TV Input? I use my TV as a second computer monitor and this would be really convenient.

It's something we've looked at. The biggest problem is that with just IR blasting, it'd take a complicated UX and would be flaky. We'd need to look at other techs to really do this well.

So my Xbox One was getting a E303 error code. Wouldnt boot up. Im like WTF is going on, what happened, and why didnt anybody say anything cause usually we use the Xbox One for all media purposes instead of our PS4. What do I find in the disc slot ? MLB 14 The Show. Its working now but im like WTF.
