Horizon is amazing too. Don't see it mentioned often.
Horizon is amazing and I've always championed it on this site or others, but it's a racing game.

Uncharted 4 isn't a new series but I think you're missing the point. Sony has a lot of new IPs coming out and a lot of really great single player focused games already out or in the works.

Microsoft is heavily focused on MP games and shooters are saturating the market. They also constantly cling to the Halo, Gears, and Forza installments. They are great games but even a lot of devoted fans of those games want some new stuff.

Scorpio might be a powerhouse but it will only go so far, it needs some new software to carry it. What are they going to show at E3 with the Scorpio this year?

This has been an issue for awhile now, the recent news only helped magnify it.

I think both system leave alot to be desired when it comes to exclusives. You can say MS exclusives have gotten stale, but what has really been Sony's breakout IP this generation? Infamous was from last Gen. it was ok, No Man's Sky Wasn't Good, The Order 1886 was panned by many (I actually liked it but many didnt), DriveClub was delayed a thousand times and had so many bugs until if wasn't right for months. Killzone isn't a new IP and was mediocre. Are there some Sony exclusives I'm missing here?

Well as Flawless mentioned, Microsoft's track record with new IPs is pretty poor and they just lost 1 game on that list because it was canceled. It was an already pretty slim list to begin with.

I'm mainly talking about the future, not 2016. Sony has a ton of new single player focused games coming and they all move the needle. Sony also has a lot of already established franchises coming with games, a new Kingdom Hearts drop at the end of this month.

My issue is more with what does Microsoft have coming. What are they working on, are they trying to develop new studios for exclusives. It seems to me as if they are going in the opposite direction with their software compared to the new hardware they have coming.

The 3 main games Microsoft has coming are State of Decay 2 which should sell well and is a pretty safe bet. Crackdown 3 which I've heard mixed things about and it doesn't sound as if it's going super great in development either. Sea of Thieves looks pretty cool but it's a MP focused game and seems as if it will rely heavily on having at least 3-4 people playing with you.

IMO Microsoft needs at least one TLOU or Uncharted type game in the works, Gears, Halo, and Forza can only get you so far.

Quite a few. Until Dawn, Rachet and Clank, some VR titles, The Last Guardian

I'm less concerned about what they already shipped. What about what's coming? Outside of Crackdown and a few other predictable releases, there hasn't been a lot mentioned. Maybe they're waiting until games are closer to completion before announcing them, but I doubt it. They'd have to have quite a few unannounced first party studios. If anything, their studio count has shrunk. Throwing money at third parties to make exclusives doesn't seem likely either

You mean they need a Naughty Dog... Lol. I wasn't that high on Scalebound, it's not the type of game I would have played anyway, but I understand your point.

                Re: Xbox One

This is all on Microsoft. They didn't pay Platinum Games employees for over a month. The main guy on the project got sick and checked himself into a mental facility, Microsoft continuously interfered with Platinum Games, wanted them to change things in the game or add stuff into the game but without increasing the budget or giving them more time to do so.

A few other tidbits. Obsidian were supposed to have an exclusive RPG for Xbox One and it was cancelled after seven months. This almost caused Obsidian to go bankrupt. They survived by going to Kickstarter which I must admit is a brilliant move because it allows you to get the funding for the game, keep the IP and have 100% total creative freedom.

Phantom Dust was going to be a reboot/remaster but six months into development, Microsoft wanted the developer, Darkside Games to add a single player campaign as it was originally multi-player only and to make a mobile card game connected to the game all in the same time frame and on the same budget.

Add in the cancelled Fable Legends (which before had a dark themed concept that Microsoft wouldn't approve) and closing of Lionhead Studios, the decline of Rare, the closing of smaller studios like Twisted Pixel and others and seriously, it's a cluster**** at Microsoft in regards to how they handle first and second party relationships and games.

To me, it seems like Microsoft is all in at the beginning but in time, have buyer's remorse or something and then want to get out of it by any means necessary.

Exclusive wise, BOTH consoles have been underwhelming to say the least but im not surprised. Between the huge budgets, longer development times, weaker than expected consoles, etc., it's not really unexpected.

If it was me, to be perfectly honest, outside of Gears of War, Halo and both Forza games, I wouldn't even waste any money, time or resources on any first or second party games and here's why - good or bad, they don't sell enough to justify all of it. That's the sad reality. Also, Microsoft is mainly successful in NA. Europe to a much lesser extent and everywhere else, they are non-existent.

For Microsoft, exclusives just don't pan out they way they want them to, especially sales wise. And in that regard, nowadays, companies can't be spending tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of dollars on games if they aren't at the very least, going to break even.

As for Scalebound itself, I was interested in it at first but that lead character was just beyond horrible and turned me off completely. Outside of the lead character though, the rest of the game looked great. It sucks when games are cancelled. In general, Star Wars 1313, Eight Days, the Legacy of Kain third person game, Sony Santa Monica's game by Stig which was cancelled a while back and led him leaving to go to EA, etc.

Just one more reason why games should never ever be shown early. Because you can't see the future and don't know what's going to happen in the long term.

And here's a little more bad news (and some good). PlayGround Games who have developed the entire Forza Horizon franchise are NOT owned by Microsoft. They have a good working relationship thus far. I wish they would own them but PlayGround Games wants to stay independent. Kind of like Insomniac Games.

Currently, PlayGround Games has two teams. The primary team works on the Forza Horizon franchise. The secondary team is working on a new IP but isn't expected to be seen until 2018. That's the good news. The bad news is that this new IP might be a multi-platform game due to them being independent. Have no clue as to what the new IP will be but regardless, that's not good news.

The point.....Microsoft having bad relationships with second parties could hurt them in regards to PlayGround Games new IP and that honestly, sucks and is simply bad business.

I know, exactly how I feel. Its the best reason to own an Xbox One IMO and it's, by far, what I play most on my X1.

I'll kindly disagree. Sony's first parties sell better and hit more than miss in regards to sales but compared to previous generations, the first party games been underwhelming and considering the fact that I favor Sony and PlayStation 4 says a lot. But to each their own.

Yeah, it's subjective of course but for me the best reason to own a PS4 is a direct result of their first party games like Uncharted, The Last of Us..

Only one of these happened this past year though. While Microsoft launched gears and forza which are both must haves imo. Even though I'm not crazy about what The Coalition did to the best part of gears this time around.

Well there are others like Ratchet & Clank, The Order, etc besides those two...there's a ton really. I can't think of any big ones really for Xbox One except Forza and Gears really...and Gears seems oriented to multiplayer more which I am not really a fan of as much anymore.

But then I'm not as big of a believer as many that it's all about first party games that makes a system. If I was I wouldn't have just sold my Wii U heh.

I enjoy Xbox One for the entire package as a whole system, and that is even outside of games (as a media hub).

It is for me too but during PS3, we had two Uncharted games in the same time span compared to one this gen. TLOU part II is 2019. Outside of Horizon, every major top tier game that Sony has shown (too early by the way) are all more than likely 2018 and beyond.

Some good games on both consoles but out of all the exclusives, I would say that Forza Horizon 3 is the king of them all and im not even a racing/driving fan. That's how great the game is.

In general, my expectations are always in the middle for every game I play and yet, the exclusives have disappointed me more this gen then they did last gen in the same time frame.
