Kinda expecting the October release date for the PS4 to come true, then MS looks reactionary if they change theirs (since they announced November) and Sony scores some more PR points.

Re: Xbox One
MS can't release earlier than Sony without creating a huge shortage on the guaranteed pre-orders. The memory problems have caused them to be later than they wanted from all reports. So unless they fixed that and found a way to speed up production, they can't meet Sony's timeline and production numbers.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I don't think it matters when the PS4 releases. Microsoft is going to rely on the brand they built for themselves with Xbox Live and all they accomplished this generation in making the Xbox name a very solid brand.
This is why the terrible PR they had with the One is more of a distraction than what the PS4 does in release sales. The DRM and always on debacle really hurt MS in terms of momentum.
I don't say that to make Sony look small but really, what momentum does Sony have other than they aren't doing or attempting to be doing what MS is/was? They really don't have one core thing that pulls in consumers, and they don't have the money MS does in terms of investing and long term support. Many here at OS will jump on that and say, "I love The Show so it's a no-brainer", but that is a small part of the PS4. Consumers are going to look at some of these peripherals that the One offers and it will generate interest and support.
I also see MS building momentum with games on demand. Some of the games we saw being sold recently were quality games at very good prices. Then there is the free games they are giving to Gold members that are also of good quality. They are going to build on these things and it will generate positive buzz.
We may see a burst for the PS4 at the start, but long term I still see MS with the upper hand in terms of funding and support. History even speaks to that. What they did with Xbox Live is very substantial. I only expect them to build on it.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Xbox One
IGN recap from the Xbox SDCC panel: http://m.ign.com/articles/2013/07/20/the-future-of-xbox
Much of it covered before, my favorite part:
"We've already covered some of the Smartglass integration in Microsoft's Ryse, but producer Justin Robey was on hand to discuss how Smartglass can display where your friends are in each of their games and can help you prep multiplayer sessions without having to load the game first. So if you're playing Ryse, you can invite a bunch of your friends to a Dead Rising match, and will be notified in Ryse when all players are ready.
Nick Burton, lead of new technology at Rare, introduced the topic of Kinect, and how the fidelity had not been "quite there" in the previous generation. It could track about 20 points on the body. The Xbox One is about 10x the resolution of the current version and can read the folds in your face and discriminate among your fingers even at 3 meters. Hand positions can now be read for better fidelity in bowling and rock climbing games. The team have even created a target shooting game that uses your hand and eye positions in place of an actual light gun.
As amazing as that is, Nick had even more surprises. He showed a Kinectic produced mask of his own face that can the be mapped to in-game models. Rather than the gamer pic versions of yourself in games like Rainbow Six, you can now import your own face geometry and even your BMI onto character models in the games. The whole game also tracks your face during gameplay and will reproduce your real life facial expressions on the in game models.
All these features are so-called system level features and will be available to any game that chooses to use them."
Translating what some of those capabilities could mean to Madden and other sports games... exciting stuff.

I can't wait to see how damn accurately it will depict us in these games.

Re: Xbox One
Canceled my Amazon pre-order (non Launch Day Edition), and picked up a LDE at Target. It was a little more expensive but I was hearing rumors about there possibly being a wait of more than a month, especially at Amazon. So I sucked it up, and paid the sales tax for Target.
Anyway, it feels good to have it all out of the way. I'm guessing Target will make me pay the first $100 tonight?Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Xbox One
Wow..out of curiosity, I just checked Ebay for Xbox one pre order sale and the prices are simply rediculous.
Here is an example:
Apparantly, that seller preordered a ton of consoles (PS4 and Xbox ones) from Gamestop. I didnt know that was possible since they limited only 1 per household. Not hating, but I don't think the seller will get 1800 for a console...but then again, Ive been wrong plenty of times.PSN: ckarlic

Re: Xbox One
I wouldn't say their brand is that hot. Look at the Surface and Windows Phone. Both Sony and Microsoft have seen better days.Comment
