When Microsoft announced the Xbox One, gamers were quick to point out what they didn't like about the device. One of the biggest concerns for Xbox fans was the price. Microsoft justifies it by pointing out the fact that buyers will also get the Kinect motion sensor when they buy the Xbox One. But what if you wanted to buy the Xbox One without Kinect?

You just might be able to. Unfortunately, it likely won't be for a while. According to Inside Gaming, those who are willing to wait will have the option of buying the Xbox One without Kinect. The website quotes a source familiar with the matter that says Microsoft will release a bundle without Kinect in the summer of next year. What's more, a second budget bundle will feature a second hard drive and actually under cut the price of Sony's PS4.

If true, they've done an almost complete 180 since they announced their successor to the 360.

I think MS is doing what they said could be done when they began releasing information about the Xbox One. Before people started gnashing their teeth about anything, MS said they are always reviewing their policies and consumers' opinions of them, and the specifics of those policies can be changed based on that.

I don't have a problem with a company that sees the error in their way and changes based on that. Obviously MS is trying to benefit from certain policies but at least they aren't being stubborn with it.

They could have tried to resit and force feed this stuff but they aren't

Microsoft has denied rumors that they intend to release an Xbox One bundle without Kinect, telling Kotaku they have "no plans" to do so.

Yesterday, the website Inside Gaming Daily reported that Microsoft plans to release a Kinect-free Xbox One bundle next summer, citing "an anonymous source familiar with the matter."

Inside Gaming Daily writes: "This contradicts Microsoft’s repeated implication that the Xbox One won’t function without a Kinect attached, but it’s sounding more and more like that’s a bit of PR smoke just to get the Kinect in people’s homes,"

But Microsoft says that's not true.
"We have no plans to introduce an Xbox One without Kinect," a spokesperson said this afternoon. "We believe in Kinect and the value it brings to both games and entertainment, and believe $499 is a great value for what consumers receive with their Xbox One."

Yeah, I don't ever see them releasing the One without the Kinect. What could see is them making it non-mandatory at some point (perhaps by the time they release their second design of the system and have a way for the controllers to connect to it instead of the Kinect), but they aren't dropping the thing out of the box completely any time in the near future. At least I wouldn't if I was them.

According to an article on the previous page they are releasing one without a Kinect a year from now.

Apparently they weren't ready for this news to be revealed until Gamescom and it was going to be their big announcement for that conference. Wonder what they have planned for TGS.

Seems like they're trying get back the gamer crowd which they lost during E3... problem is their hardware still isn't as "powerful" as that of the PS4. It will be interesting if the rumors of MS upclocking the GPU are true. Unlikely, but interesting.

Sony not being able to get the most popular video related apps (namely HBOGo) ensures we'll be keeping our 360 hooked up in the living room even after we get our PS4 unless something changes or the former is replaced by an Xbox One.

Honestly I was an early 360 owner then switched after the format war was won. I had been pining about HBOGo being on 360 for a while and the wife got me one for Xmas. I lo e that. I find myself watching more HBOGo than playing games on it.

Not running to get an XB1 (selling my preorder or returning it) but I eventually will have one and it will be more of the family "gaming" system.

Unrelated to the above: I figured they weren't going to be too happy that leaked out. Just looking at some places, it seems like some people would have preferred MS announcing it themselves over it being leaked just from a PR standpoint.

If Google's Chromecast (ordered 2 today) eventually gets Amazon VOD and HBOGo support and is all it's cracked up to be... our 360 will probably be retired before we get an Xbox One, if we get one at all. Rokus certainly getting the boot.
