    Re: Xbox One

Although I wasn't to concerned, I finally got my confirmed release date delivery email from Amazon. Less than 2 weeks to go.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

I think I gotta do the same. These 4k updates are gonna full up my 2tb quickly and I’d rather not use internal storage. Which seagate did you grab? Does it need its own power source?

Yeah I've been meaning to watch Slickdeals, something like this 8TB for $150 (w/ code EMCXBRCG2, ends today) is tempting, but probably end up getting something a little smaller and with better reviews.

The 4TB WD has been as low as $99 I think and is $105 at Best Buy right now.

            Kinect is dead...ceasing production.

We still have them plugged in, but they seem to take longer to recognize what i said vs. Alexa or Google.

Wonder if selling them would be lucrative eventually? Get IR blasters to replace that functionality via remote? Hmmmm.
Starting with the One S, the IR blaster is now located on the front of the console. My Kinect stopped working recently, so we've just gone without. I do miss it from time to time while watching TV, as voice for pause and mute was kind of nice. Otherwise, we didn't use it much.

Microsoft is enabling web cams for Skype and broadcasting, but you need to use a headset for the audio. I wish MS would sell a microphone that you could set in the room, like an Echo, that took care of voice commands and chat.

                BUT

                what does it really do?

                lets see

                makes Forza 7 better

                makes madden better

makes pes 2018 better but still doesn't allow kits through usb

makes most titles better but has no real exclusive "oh my gosh" titles you just have to play it on

I am being negative but I do have it preordered too so im excited for the"tech" side of it but not the gaming side as much

It's the latest Xbox in the ecosystem and I already own over 200 games for it. It plays the games I play the most, and better than any other console.

That's why I'm getting it, and just part of why I'll continue to invest in the ecosystem.

It's like buying a better graphics card on PC. Games will have the ability to have better graphics/resolution, but It's not a new generation of console. Its not like the jump from Xbox to Xbox 360 or 360 to Xbox one. Those saw a big jump in CPU and overall system performance increase.

                      Re: Xbox One

I've been out of town for several weeks and my son happened to unplug the xbox1 while I was out.

I did get a big system update, but I noticed my regular Madden game was no where to be found, instead it was the EA trial version. I also noticed that the Blu Ray app wasn't installed, so, I reinstalled it.

Even with the BluRay app installed, I can't run my disk anymore, they are not reading out. So, either I have a faulty disk drive(just picked up a new one in January) or I need to call MS and find out if they are able to troubleshoot what might have else happened.

I enter the Blu Ray app and I have a message pop up, no disk in the disk drive.

                      Any thoughts?

                      Thanks.

I think generations are largely done. Really depends on how the PS5 and next Xbox are executed, then we'll see if MS's ecosystem play can be sustained indefinitely.

If we get a new Xbox every 4-5 years +/- a year or so, with new AAA titles backward compatible 1 console and forward compatible for all foreseeable consoles I'm completely OK with that.

I do not get the crowd that downplay the X because it has no exclusives...The 360 had no games for the last 2 almost 3 years and it still sold much better over the comp in the U.S and was neck and neck the whole time even when Sony had the superior exclusives

Is having the best and far superior versions of the multi plats which are games that come out each year and not every 3 or 4 years not worth the excitement?

If I felt that way about the X, I would never trade my S and spend money on it...

Try a hard reset. Also try reloading your Games and Apps. After the latest update I had some issues with my games not showing up. Sometimes with was just not finding my external.

But since a reset, I've hand no issues.

Yeah, I've said all along that I thin this is Microsoft jump starting the next generation, but it might be more complicated than that. It's more like releasing a console that would be a new generation, but making it 100% compatible with their ecosystem.

This hopefully avoids the Dreamcast problem. Sega tried to jumpstart the next gen, but abandoning the old platform pissed off EA and others. That led to a lack of support. Microsoft, facing similar issues as Sega, are releasing their version father Dreamcast, but are specifically painting support and making it easy for third parties to come along.

I'm really curious what Sony's response will be. If they go with a normal break from the old gen when the PS5 drops, it's going to feel awfully backwards and outdated. Microsoft will release a new console to compete with the PS5, but will support all XB1 games, as well as the selected 360 and OG games.

Throw in Xbox Live Gamepass and EA Access, and you can jump to the Xbox ecosystem and have pretty intense library of games to play pretty easily. It's not a bad strategy, but it is still unclear if it will have a real effect on marketshare.

The other thing to look for is the first console game for the Xbox that no longer runs on the original XB1's. Because really, that's the sign of a new generation. But that gives publishers some flexibility. Install base will dictate those moves.
