Re: Xbox One
Yeah probably because that was straight software emulation - so the emulator software could play the disk directly.
On the XO the entire game needs to be downloaded as an updated software package - with some sort of emulation built into it. So that makes it a re-release of sorts.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I'm very intrigued by this. I like the streaming from your own console, hoping the xCloud type stuff will improve the streaming vs. the Windows stuff now (I bet it does).
I wonder though, will xCloud itself be something we pay for? Or included in Game Pass or something? Like if I own a digital game can I just choose to play it on xCloud without anything else?
Somewhere around 20 minutes or so they start talking about xCloud, and he says something interesting in the 23 minute mark. Streaming from your console, free. xCloud - cost, yet to be determined. But if you own a console and the game, they want to make it totally transparent...sounding like the cost will be for those who want to stream similar to the stadia model with a monthly membership for game access, but free if you own the game.Comment

So Stadia is irrelevant to anyone who owns a Microsoft console. That’s gotta be rough for google to hear but I’m sure they knew it was coming. I’m sure sony will be following suit too.Last edited by ricky24; 06-13-2019, 02:26 PM.Comment

Re: Xbox One
But then when I saw the small initial games list and then hearing about how Phil wants xCloud to work - seems like Stadia might be a pass for me.
But I guess more to see how it works out aside from speculation based on the limited info he gave.
Though I see game pass as the perfect monthly cost and large list of games to use their streaming service. But then anyone on game pass already is not paying anything different, essentially just getting out of home streaming for free.
Unless maybe they bump the subscription again to Ultimate + xCloud for another few dollars. Then games you own would be free and game pass games could be streamed with the enhanced pass. But that wouldn't make a lot of business sense since I figure most people would stick with the free streaming from their home console since it is hard to say how often you would benefit from using xCloud streaming over the home console streaming.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Stadia needs a killer exclusive, or several, to get myself and a lot of other people to try it I think..
Honestly I wonder about its potential to make it at this point. But maybe they'll surprise me

Re: Xbox One
Exclusives haven't really moved the needle with me much anymore, if it's a good value, more reliable than xCloud, I'm in. It looks like if I have uPlay+ then I'll be able to get all the Ubisoft games over the service, that synergy has value, we'll see what the details end up looking like.
Either way, I'm already in for 3 months, after that? We'll see. xCloud will have been out a month before Stadia founders stuff ships.Comment

I just see a lot of redundancy with Xbox/PC

Re: Xbox One
Exclusives are my number one priority when it comes to consoles. If there's no exclusives for the respective console that I want to play, then it simply doesn't carry much weight for me. Thankfully, I haven't had many issues in this regard and even though Microsoft's exclusives are on PC, im not a PC gamer whatsoever so for me, I still consider them exclusives.
Have absolutely zero interest in Stadia as streaming games is my third preference in regards to how I want to play games plus what they announced doesn't sound enticing at all. $10 a month for their version of Live Gold/PS Plus sounds meh to me. If they get games day one for $10 a month then yeah, that's good as long as their streaming service holds up but otherwise, meh.
Plus while im not a fan of streaming games, im way more interested in XCloud because I have way more confidence in Microsoft than I would ever have in Google. And most of all, Microsoft and Sony came to an agreement to discuss Sony using Azure for their PS Now streaming service. Sony looked at Google and Amazon. Possibly others and decided to go with their biggest competitor in gaming - Microsoft. That tells me that Microsoft's service is top tier/top notch and better than the alternatives.
Of course, have to wait and see how that all plays out. 20 games for the rest of 2019 for me, who knows how many for 2020 and in 18 months from now, it's onto next gen Xbox with Halo Infinite AC Ragnarok and hopefully, a next gen port of Cyberpunk 2077 at launch.
Excellent time to be a gamer.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I'd rather play on the platform that gives me the experience I like best. Sure a handful of exclusives are nice and all, but they are such a small number of the total games it doesn't matter to me at all, especially given that I play a large number of games and those that I spend the most time with are AAA multiplat games.
Stadia I will for sure try, but I don't see streaming as a primary choice for gaming. As Phil said it is more of an add on/additional experience. It can't replace local compute and display, as light only moves so fast. Streaming can be enhanced to get latency down, but it physically is impossible to remove it all together. It can be a solid experience but it never will be the best.
Since Xbox has been around a while and has a larger library, has hardware choices to play games (console and PC), and now is adding the option to stream as an additional option and not the ONLY option, they are in a much better place than google will be. Sure if google gets some exclusives I might give them a buy, but similar to PS4 I won't invest much time if I don't l like the overall experience as much. And if the choices are Console, PC, or stream...vs stream only...I can't imagine it will win me over.Comment

No argument in regards to the platform that gives you the best experience. I'm a solo gamer so for me it's PS4 as my primary but im not just talking about Sony's first party games, im also talking about the Yakuza's, Nioh's, etc. as well.
Hopefully, Spencer is able to get the Japanese publishers on board for next gen in regards to releasing those Japanese games (and third party exclusives in general) on both consoles on the same day as opposed to months/years later or not at all. This will only increase the appeal of the console. Granted, it's a small market but still, every little bit helps make the brand even better as a whole.Comment
