    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

So now that I order the KS8000 55 inch TV last night like I said it will be interesting to see how much better games and Bluray's look now that I am going from a 720p upscale TV to a TV that can play normal ps4 and bluray's in full 1080p instead of upscale.

This is the TV I have right now that I am replacing.
    https://www.amazon.com/sony-bravia-k...dp/B000P9ZNX0/

The crazy thing is with how much smaller TV's get over time when it comes to how skinny they are is that the TV I am replacing was about 40 lbs and now the new one is about 38lbs even though its screen is 18 inches bigger and heck the TV I had before that TV that was only 19 inch screen I think was even more then the KS8000 when it comes to its weight lol. But that is tech for you.

I'm sure it's not but it looks pretty spectacular to me.

Again, this is not simulated hdr. It's legit. But it is probably not as good as the high end tvs.

I did my research and only bought this once I confirmed the HDR was HDR 10 compatible.

Im not speaking on your tv or anything but it matters to have a 10 bit panel and a wide color gamut as well.

Alot of the tvs being sold on black friday really cheap 299 and the likes aren't exactly what people may think the native 4k hdr is.

Nice when I order the 55 inch Version last night it was 997 plus tax for like 1074 I kind of wish I had done it like a week ago though because I think at that point in time they had it had 997 but with out tax. So I think if I had gotten it then I could have spent like 77 less.

Checkerboard is just a fancy word for we cant do 4K native so we throw a band aid on it

Checkerboard just uses a tech that makes the resolution resemble 4K at the cost of losing shaders which is why the image at 4K is soft in many games that are upscaled to 4K.From a distance is not apparent but the corners were cut as this is not a 4K console.

Having said that the console is priced perfect for what is offering and is a huge upgrade to vanilla ps4 with 4K HDR tvs

          That is FACT

Most people reviewing and talking about the shortcomings are basing it on 30 or so patched old games

No game yet has been made with the PRO in mind

I dont want to download patches for my games on the PRO

Going forward all games will be made with PRO as lead console and will have in game settings or 1080p owners or a simple downscale which helps the image on 1080p a bit but right now at the cost of performances

          That will be sorted out

I think this is just a preview of ps5. Come ps5 I think ever game will be either like 1800 or 4k full not upscaled or checkerboarding or any thing but full.

Could be true. I think it's as much if not more a test of how the fan base reacts and supports/ doesn't support incremental upgrades or scaled release versions of the same system.

Sony would waste a ton of money mass producing a native 4K (or very close to) system, which most people at this point and most likely even a year or 2 from now wouldn't truly benefit from, as 4K is growing absolutely but very far from mainstream

While that to I think only about 10% of people have 4k TV's right now. That could be off but I thought I heard that number before can correct me if that number is off but in the next few years the amount of people that have a 4k TV is going to continue to go up and the price to be able to make a system that can do real 4k will continue to go down has while has the prices on 4k TV's. Up in till last year you really could not get any 4k 50 inch TV's for less then 1000. Now you can get the KS8000 a really good one for around that price for the 49 inch one and or not much more for the 55 inch one. I don't know a lot about tech but from what I have heard 4k gaming still cost a lot and I have heard people saying that Scorpio is going to cost a lot and that even some of its games real not be 4k. In other 2-3 years the price to make a 4k console will be a lot more affordable for Sony then it would be right now. The mid gen thing I kind of wonder about to. Is that going to be a new thing forever? Like are we going to get ps5 and then a few years later a ps5 pro and then a ps6? Or are we going to get ps5 and then the next system will be ps6 like 5-6 years later like past gens? Did Sony only really do the pro because 4k is the big new thing? If 4k was either not around or if 4k had been around longer then it has would the pro not have happened? I have heard some people say that the ps4 and xboxone was weak when they first came out and that pro is more like what ps4 should have been like from the start but how many people even knew about 4k back in 2013? I had never seen a 4k TV in till the begging of 2015 and never heard any thing about 4k in till 2014.

True costs are always coming down but "mainstream" IMO is still a ways away. There are a lot of other factors like data caps on internet is keeping streaming services from really ramping up 4K content, cable companies are barely if at all offering 4K broadcasts those heavily factor into people's tv purchases. Plus a good portion of game systems are bought by parents for kids. Even if a parent has a 4K tv in living room it's very unlikely the kid has one in their room also where the system would be used.

Just saying I see Sony moving forward maybe releasing say a "Vanilla" type PS4 for the vast majority of people at one price point and a "Pro' version with 4K tech for those that need it. As long as they both play same games then it satisfies both market spaces.

I am not so sure. Right now, $1000 video cards cannot play all games in 4K at 60FPS.

Some games, but not all. In three years, those cards will still be way, way more expensive than a PS5. To really go 4K, you are looking at a 1000-1500 machine, and SONY will never aim at that market obviously.

Some games now run at 4K...NBA 2K, FIFA etc. Those two run on PCs with midrange cards also at that res. The PS4 pro itself is essentially an AMD 480 in terms of power.

Most games running at something that looks like 4K is a hell of an effort for a $400 machine IMO.

While things like 4k broadcasting is most likely a long time away heck even HD stations on like Direct TV are in 1080i not 1080p still and 1080p has been around for what like 13 years or something? One thing I notices is the price for 4k bluray's are going down much faster then bluray's where. Some 4k bluray's already cost the same has the bluray version. When bluray first came out on the other hand just about ever bluray was 10-20 more then the dvd version and that took a while to really change.

The 4K disc thing has more to do with the fact less people are buying discs, Blu ray sales are falling

While I didn't say that ever game was going to be 60FPS and 4k lol. Even now not ever game is 60 FPS with 1080p on the normal ps4 and xboxone and this is now the second gen of consoles having any sort of 1080p has xbox360 and ps3 both had some 1080p games but most where 720p. So by ps5 we may have a lot of 4k 30 FPS instead of 4k 60 fps and maybe I am jumping a little to fast saying ever game will be 4k. Maybe on ps5 like 40%-50% of games will be 4k and the rest will be like 1440 or something and then maybe by ps6 ever game will be 4k.

Oh ok that explains things then. I would though when it comes to movie sales what % of movies that are sold are disk and what are digital? Also I wonder how many people don't really but movies any more and just watch movies on like Netflix. I know Netflix does not have ever movie but they do have a lot of movies though. When it comes to video game sales I have heard not long ago that 80% are still disk and only 20% are digital but I have a felling that the digital number is higher for movies. The odd thing about the sale of disk movie sales is that I have heard that 4k bluray's are sailing at a faster pace then people thought they would. So I thought that was showing that people buy disk movies more then people though but maybe not.

I buy a mix of physical and digital games. The real reason I still do physical is I can get a game that's been out a little while cheaper at say GameStop then the full price they keep them at online, plus you can trade them in and I can only take downloading a few 40 gig + games lol.

Movies though mine are all pretty much iTunes or Amazon digital copies if I even buy them, lots of ways to steam them to offset buying them outright imo

Just finished the single player campaign in Titanfall 2 on hard difficulty in 11 hours over one day. A very good game. Visually, looks great on the PRO and the gameplay/gunplay is excellent. Solid story and characters too. Some really awesome effects, plat-forming, etc. as well. Music, sound effects and voice acting were all good. Only one technical problem throughout the entire game. The audio went out for maybe 10 seconds or so twice in the later chapters but otherwise, no problems. I never played the original Titanfall but Titanfall 2 is what the franchise should have started as. Shame that sales are low because it really is a very good game. Horrible decision by EA to release it between Battlefield 1 and COD as they buried their own game.

As of right now I would have to say this is one of the better gaming years I have had in awhile. Tons of hours invested this year in a number of titles that I really feel great about.

Good year for gaming. Can't wait to see what Watch Dogs 2 and FF15 bring to the table
