One key thing to always look for when wanting an HDR set is the NIT which samsung has them in the 1000 level compared to the Sony at 350

The brighter the screen the better the HDR will be and the better blacks and contrast will show
I agree in general in regards to not buying a 4K TV only for gaming but for me, 90% of the time the TV is on, it's for gaming. The 49ers suck and I live in NY so I barely watch any NFL games and I don't care about NBA, MLB, NHL or college sports. Movies were more when I had a girlfriend. Single, I may watch one here and there but don't really care. TV shows, I just can't watch on TV anymore. Netflix or bust. And since I don't have cable, I have no problem waiting a year for shows. No commercials and no waiting a week for new episodes. Again, in general, I agree 100% but for me personally, it's just about gaming.

I know about the 350 nits level and that it should be at least 1000 nits but seriously, I had contrast maxed at 100 with HDR on and trust me, the whites were too bright. Lowered contrast to 50 and wow, a much better picture. Even switching HDR on and off for Titanfall 2, HDR looks great. Seriously, you can see the difference. Off, everything looks bland, dull and boring. On, everything looks vivid and lush. Even Killzone: Shadow Fall looks good with HDR on.

Double the price for the Samsung wasn't worth it for me. The Sony X800D is easily a top three 4K HDR TV and some sites I have seen rate it tied with the Samsung KS8000. In short, for double the money, the difference is minimal for me and not worth it especially since I may sell this one next year depending on next year's models. If not, I have no problem keeping the TV for a few years.

The black levels are solid on the TV and at 100 max, contrast is NOT a problem but it's too much. I had to lower that to 50 and the picture is just so much better. Brightness is maxed at 50 which is good too. Not too little and not overdone. Just right for the rest of the settings that im using.

Either way, you can't go wrong especially when I see other 4K TV's that don't have HDR and/or WCG (wide color gamut) selling for around the same price as the Sony X800D.

which is the samsung ks8000 which has great hdr but subpar motion

      OR

The Sony X850D is a good 4k LED TV for a living room. Its picture quality in a darker room isn't as good as last year's model, the X850C, but it boasts a better ...

which has GREAT motion but subpar HDR (but app a patch is coming out for it)

      I currently have a samsung

but i feel the samsung goes better with the xbox and that the sony ob. goes better with the pro.

I "think" both are going for the same 1600 BUT these are the 65inch models

the 60 inch samsung KS8000 goes for 1200
and there no Sony variant at 60

      I have 55 now

      i need to go bigger

But i dont know how much a difference 55 to 60 is or 55 to 65 is to know

I save about 400 going less
and spend about 400 more going bigger?

      DECISIONS
The motion isn't subpar on the ks8000. The latest tv update made motion blur a lot better. I didn't have any issues before the update and now after the update it's even better.
NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.

I still have a Toshiba LED 40" TV that I purchased back in 2012. It's in my living room back home and the picture is still pretty good. I wouldn't know how to compare, but I've always enjoyed it.

I don't feel like sorting through all of this organized chaos, specifications, numbers, etc. involved with a new PS4 and trying to make sure I get the right TV. It's an expensive leap to make because of the TV and there's nothing wrong with any of my current TVs. With a new baby in my house I can wait. I'll get a pro one day, but it won't be soon.

I'm going to wait and see just how all of this plays out. This thread gives me a headache now.

Oh pilot service I have no idea what that is lol. I just know when I order the TV I was able to select a day but not a time.

Then they messed up by not putting in a 4K UHD BD player.

If they wanted me to go 4K with them (and I probably would have, as that was the tipping point), that certainly would have enticed me. I don't know what the hell they were thinking saying, "Yeah, we're going to cater to 4K owners by leaving the new disc format off our brand new machine."

This is not a 4K console. We still haven't even achieved 1080p/60 FPS despite initial PS4 pre-release spec claims. It's unbelievable that developers alienate the 90% 1080p television ownership crowd by not providing an option for greater framerate alongside their 4K option. I also can't believe the number of 4K owners out there who always showed me charts of telling me I wouldn't be able to discern 1080p from 720p on my own screen, and they'll be telling me the same thing when 8K becomes available.

I'm stating this as a non-owner of the Pro or a 4K TV, so of course I'm speaking bitterly towards what it has to offer. But my bitterness is exactly why I don't own it as well. I'm not blaming Sony, mind you... it's up to the developers, I get that entirely. I don't like the idea of Sony putting a "forwards thinking" versus "backwards thinking" to its marketing, though. It'll just spin towards developers to not provide more options in the future. Of course, we will see what this machine does for future titles, and that might possibly be my tipping point.

Until then, it's certainly unbelievable they didn't add a UHD BD drive to this.

Realized going through the Library App on my Pro I have 176 games purchased but only one with Pro capabilities, that being the Last of Us. So I quickly grabbed the BF1 and TF2 Deluxe Double Pack. After work I'll look into Shadow of Mordor.

The general consensus after that seems to be NBA 2K17 and Ratchet?

Hard to disagree with anything you're saying, especially when you consider reports immediately after the Pro's unveiling that putting in a UHD disc drive would have cost between $15-20. I understand wanting to hit the magical $399 price point. But the reality is this...who's buying this machine?

For the first year or so, we're talking the hardcore of the hardcore. Not only are the people buying the Pro early adopters in general, but also early adopters of 4K TV's as well. It's a very very niche group of people who this system is targeted for, based on Sony's description of the Pro.

So let's say Joe Average walks into a store and is buying a 4K TV. He goes to get himself a 4K player as well. If the store clerk is somewhat informed, he'll tell Mr. Average that the Pro doesn't play UHD discs but the Xbox One S does. Who is Sony trying to appeal to then? Not 1080p'ers and not people who want to watch 4K media, outside of streaming. You're literally pushing customers away to Microsoft. They should have either eaten the cost of the UHD drive or sold this thing for $429.

Luckily, this is all early days yet. We only need to look to how the Xbox One has evolved from three years ago. It was a disaster of a game console at release, in comparison to the PS4, where now you could argue which one is a better buy for someone who has neither. Sony could lighten up on the 4K marketing and devs could have more wiggle room to maximize 1080p on the Pro. Sony should have been using Tomb Raider as the bar for devs to reach instead of going on and on about 4K.

But this could easily be rectified in a short amount of time.

sometimes when you select the day that means pilot service or a carrier they use to deliver big boxes that UPS or FED EX cant. So most likely a couple of days before delivery the carrier will call you to set up a delivery window

                      Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Absolutely infuriating how little attention Sony pays to online and their online services. I have somewhere between 175-200mb/s download speed coming into my place. On the Xbox One, I get anywhere from 100-150mb/s depending on the time.of day. The lowest I've seen is 80ish, but that was once.

The PS4? I set everything up last night to download on my Pro and at 4am this morning before heading to work I wanted to see the status. Next to nothing downloaded. I check the connection details. 52mb/s download. At 4am when next to nobody is on.

Unacceptable. If you're gonna charge what Microsoft charges, you better at least be in the same ballpark with this stuff. Don't even get me started on how smooth online play is on the One compared to the PS4.

                      Ugh rant over lol.

This is the issue here, Sony and MS both messed up with the PS4 and XB1 at release. Sony won easily due to the MS message and better specs but even as nice as the PS4 was the spec performance should have been what the PS3 was and it did not allow 1080p 60fps in most titles. But sony kept on driving resolution and resolution. As many do not want to admit, the resolution won Sony this battler vs MS

So Sony starting thinking about the growing number of not only 4K tv owners but 4K monitor owners. They see that that market started to gravitate towards PC so they wanted to keep that growing market even if it was not yet the majority with the PRO not to mention they wanted better machine for the VR experience going forward.

They did not put a UHD drive in the system because their mantra that won them the sales war with gamers was (PS4 is a gaming machine) that is how they look at this today. They know that putting a UHD drive would cost 15 dollar per console but is a huge hit in the wallet when you add it all up and they feel that the market is not there yet for 4K UHD disc and wanted to keep the price cheap.

MS released the S with the UHD drive but the gaming portion of it was still inferior to the PS4 vanilla and now it is no comparison to the PRO

The PRO is going to win about every single month going forward because the PRO is the best gaming console period. But Sony has driving to the devs that resolution is the key and devs will be making all games going forward with the PRO in mind. There is no sharing the pie with 1080p owners because to them their answer is get a ps4 vanilla. They cannot make a game 1080p on the PRo because that is what they already established with the vanilla ps4. They will be making games in 1440p, 1800p, or 4K and downscaled to 1080p screens which will fix jaggies. Those will be the benefits to 1080p owners because sony is not releasing the PRO for 1080p owners. That is what the ps4 vanilla already offers.

Sony needs the PRO to offer a substantial difference to the eye when someone sees it compared to the vanilla ps4

Sony will not compete with Scorpio next fall if their ps4 games are already 1080p 30fps and their PRO games at 1080p 60fps if Scorpio is delivering more native 4K and high resolution high fps.

Sony needs to make the PRO a 4K machine even if it is not fully one.

The benefits that a 1080p owner is going to get going forward is the super sampling to help fix jaggies but that is about as far as that is going to go because the PRO console will be trying is hardest to push the fidelity

We are all here talking about bad PRO performance on games that have been out a while. I am more interested in games going forward starting with Watch Dogs 2 next week. Judge Sony going forward and not on patched old games.

But Sony is not going to cater their 4K Pro machine to 1080p owners..They already did that with the vanilla ps4 and they are sure as hell not going to upset that base

Well said, NY, but I would disagree with you on one point. I don't think it's a slam dunk that the Pro wins the sales war. Mass market appeal doesn't come from guys like us, we're a super small portion of the consumer base. It comes from the common man or woman and they have been far slower to adopt digital media. Most still would prefer to put a disc in their machine as opposed to download a file. And the only console right now that does that for the consumer is the Xbox One S.

It's such a petty oversight on Sony's part. Almost mind-boggling.

The general consensus after that seems to be NBA 2K17 and Ratchet?
Ratchet is great nba 2k17 is actually REALLY clear and smooth and players and court graphcs have been improved by about i think 30% which is huge looks about 30 percent better than on xbox one and about 28% better on ps4 pro

But i also realized that too and wish that ALL games were like nba 2k17 with its downsampling.

I do not want to start purchasing PRO only games either none of them interest me i play sports games

Mordor(mediocre game at best for me and my taste)
last of us(never wanted to play it)
uncharted 4(stopped at chapter 3 cuz a sports game came out)
titanfall 2 (well i loved the first one but think the lore and environments are not as good to warrant a purchase like the first one my opinion)

and the list goes on minus watch dogs 2 which looked GREAT in previews but ppl streaming ti make it look BAD like real bad now so im worried

                                STEEP though?

                                yikes soooo good
