Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
No, Microsoft will actually SHOW the console....lol.Premium services (think xbox live gold) will be paid services. So you will be paying to play online. They see how much money Microsoft is making, there not going to pass that up.Because Microsoft knows you don't announce something without showing the actually hardware. You don't have to give the price, but have to show the hardware. MS did it last year with Surface. They showed the hardware, even though all the detail were not finished.
A) Microsoft won't have an official reveal until E3, as will Sony.
B) PSN will most likely remain free, as it always has been. PS Plus has been a great success & it's optional, and doesn't require you to have it to play online.
C) You don't have to show any hardware at all. Thats why E3, the biggest event of the year every year, is for such things. Whats the point of showing it infront of a small crowd, when you can show it to a much larger crowd and steal the thunder from the competition.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The person I spoke to could not give me any details or exact dates.
His exact words were, "look for it around these dates"Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I don't think Curahee was saying those were exact dates. He's saying that each step would be around those dates, and considering that E3 is a week prior to 6/20 and 11/20 seems like a good approximate release date for the holiday season, I don't think it's that far off. I'm not saying his source is right. I think it's mostly just common sense.
I do hope that the new design is sleek. I'm tired of buying the bulky system and then seeing a sleeker, slimmer model out a couple years after. I realize that there will likely be a redesign at some point, but please let the PS4 be as sleek as possible so I don't feel like I need someone else to help me carry it upstairs."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

My brother-in-law writes music for a prominent video game company.
Thats all I can say.
If you guys don't beleive me, that fine, I'll sleep the same either way. But the begging and pleading I had to do to get the info I got, tells me he's telling me the truth.
I just thought I would share what I know.Last edited by Curahee; 02-21-2013, 12:57 PM.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Does anyone know exactly when the Holiday season begins? For retail stores, it can be early November, sometimes earlier. If they're talking in the eyes of a customer, I would think late November. I'm going to guess it's a release date similar to the Wii U.Comment

All that still doesn't change the fact that previously hardware was always shown as soon as anything else was shown, and it's a letdown to not see it. They showed off the Playstation 3 hardware before any actual gameplay, it was all "target videos" at that point with the PS3 hardware spec not even finalized (remember two HDMI connectors and 2 RJ 45 ports?), but yet there was still plenty to talk about. I just really think the hardware was in flux, but regardless of the reason it was really disappointing not to see it for all the reasons stated in that Kotaku quote.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
"Holiday" and "Christmas" tend to mean before Thanksgiving to avoid much of the black friday preparation mess, so mid November. November 11th, 19th, 16th, and 18th were the last console release dates all in November.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Yeah, that would be when I'm thinking. I'm wondering if Sony is going to hold off on releasing a ton of consoles off the start. I know in my eyes I'll be buying the second I can, and a couple friends of mine are as well, but there may be a lot of people that might hold off. I just hope there's not a shortage of consoles. The way it looks, Sony is really trying to focus on games, while giving us a ton of freedom and very cool options.Comment

Yeah, but I think NovemberComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Well, what I'm thinking is that the system is going to be black. Sony showing an all black controller kind of hints at an all black system. Also, look at the new design of the controller. I'm thinking the design of the console will follow suit with the controller and the new PS Eye. Console design isn't really a huge thing to myself, just as long as it's sleek and not like the newest slim model lolComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Spoiler
In all seriousness though, I own both the PS3 and 360. I went through a long stint (about two years) were I was exclusively a Sony man. My 360 pretty much collected dust for those two years, then I made the jump back to the 360 in 2011 and now my PS3 is basically a blu ray player. The crazy thing is when I look back on this gen my favorite games have been PS3 exclusives (Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain).
Games like those along with The Show are some of biggest reasons I'm intrigued by what the PS4 has to offer. I'm very anxious to see what Naughty Dog has in store and I certainly can't wait to what sports games look and play like too. Although, more than their looks I'm hoping that things like A.I. and depth are improved next gen. I haven't decided if I will get both new consoles at their release or not (assuming that they are both released this year), but I'm sure that I will have both consoles sooner or later. I can't wait to hear more.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

The PlayStation 4 supports 4K resolution output, Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida just told us – but only for video that was recorded in the format. He clarified that games do not play in 4K.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Makes sense since it can't play PS3 titles natively, but Sony confirmed PSN purchases will not carry over to PS4, will be a clean slate/fresh start. Destructoid took this a step further and said game saves won't transfer either.Comment
