    anyway on topic....
I have heard that PSN games will not carry over and that leads me to believe that neither will trophies

WHAAAT. What's the point of buying all those games thru PSN (digitally, I might add) and NOT be able to play them in the PS4? That would be like Apple saying, "Hey, here's the new iPhone 6! Bad luck though, all your apps won't work and you'll have to buy them all over again."

I'm pretty sold on the PS4, but if that were true, I'd be pissed. I can understand no BC thru actual game discs but anything sold thru PSN should work on the PS4 -- thru download, streaming (Gaikai) or both.

Anyways, base on the rumors we've heard, the next Xbox will use more or less the same AMD APU as the PS4 but there will be a bit more overhead due to the operating system and kinect 2.0. The last I read the PS4 was using an AMD 7xxx series GPU whereas the next Xbox would use an 8xxx series GPU. Is this accurate? I have no idea (by now it probably isn't). Even if it is, that doesn't necessarily mean the Xbox has more GPU power, but rather it is using a newer/more efficient architecture.

MS doesn't care if their hardware comes from the same vendor as Sony's. They just want to sell more consoles and make more money.
AMD 8xxx series GPUs (Sea Island series) aren't going to be released until late summer at the earliest. I don't see how the new XBOX will be able to incorporate these by the 2013 holidays unless they got advanced shipments, which is highly unlikely since AMD is still optimizing the new chipset.

The way it looks, Sony is really trying to focus on games, while giving us a ton of freedom and very cool options.
I want no part of the first batch of releases. History has shown that the first consoles released are just bug-ridden.

At the price point we're talking about, I'm more than content to hold off until sometime early in 2014. Besides, it'll give me more time to collect any Christmas gift cards

My early list- Watch Dogs, Killzone

I'm staying away from any sports games that come out with the console. I think the sports games that come out then are going to be being patched for months after release.

Ok. In order to keep up with games you have to upgrade. You'll easily spend over that after 8 years.

That's not true at all. Playing PC games at medium quality is equal to, if not better, than console graphics. Also, you're forgetting that PC gamers rarely pay $60 for a game. Most new games start at $49.99 and sales let you get all the best games for 50%-75% off the same year the game released. If you buy a new PS4 for $500 (est) and 10 games over the next two years, you've spend ~$1100 in two years; whereas, you can buy 30-40 games for a $600 gaming PC and spend the same amount of money over the same two year period. Even though you may not have the time to play all the games, the later is a better deal. Numbers never lie.

Back on topic, the thing I really like about the PS4, is the fact that Sony realized the mistakes made by going with the cell processor in the PS3 and actively worked with developers to ensure the fiasco didn't repeat itself this generation. Also, everyone is complaining about the social media aspect of the PS4, yet, the same people aren't saying a word about the XBOX and the fact that it is geared more as a "multimedia machine" than a gaming console. If I want a multimedia machine, I'll build a linux-based HTPC for $300.

Also, has anyone heard anything about game prices yet? Are we going to get some inflation action or have will the prices hold at current rates?

I got rid of my PS2 to get a Xbox because it was better.
I then got rid of my 360 to get a PS3 because of the exclusive games.
I wasn't married to either brands.
I'm not a FPS guy and was dying to try Metal Gear, Uncharted, Infamous, and The Show.
I still love the exclusive Sony games so regardless of the 720 specs, I might still stick with PS4.

The only problem/complaints I had were none of my buddies made the switch with me so I was **** out of luck with playing them online in sports titles.
Hopefully they all go with PS4 too.

Loosely related, Sony said a price cut for the Vita in the US "isn't in the cards" due to the exchange rate.

Posting this and a link to the article in the Vita thread.

Could downloading an entire demo be something of the past? Check out #4 in this article: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/1...p#.USaD2aXryrk. Looks like gamers may have the opportunity to stream a full game for a specific amount of time...think PSN Plus without having to download 1.5GBs for an hour of gameplay. Since developers wouldn't be forced to create an entirely separate demo, every game could theoretically act as a demo as well. The potential is there...

And this is why I think Sony will start charging a subscription for most of their online services.

I'm definitely not happy with that.

I'm the same way. I own both consoles right now. I'll probably end up buying the ps4 at launch though and waiting for the 720. The only games I play on my ps3 right now are the exclusives like the Show, God of War and Uncharted and by the time the PS4 comes out I wont have any games to play on the ps3.

On the flip side because sports games usually take a year to become good on next gen, I'll buy the Maddens/NCAAs/NBA2ks/GTAs. on my 360 and upgrade sometime in '14. Unless the 720 has backwards compatibility.

I'm fine with paying a yearly fee. Especially for something like that.

PS4 isn't backwards compatible, so even if purchases did transfer over you couldn't play them (which I think is the gist of what was said, but we'll have to see). As for games that should be playable, PS1 and older console games, I guess we need someone to ask. It just seems, IMO, that the blanket statement wasn't wholly accurate, just easier.

What I find funny, as Sony made fun of previous statements like "supercomputer on a chip", nVidia has a press release about GTX Titan talking about "personal gaming supercomputers".

I noted this earlier, when they showed off the WiiU the emphasis was totally on the controller, but the hardware was in the background and had press shots released right after.
