I agree. This would be much more popular as a subscription service.

Maybe since it's a beta and the games are free right now, they float the pricing out there because they know social media/message boards will get it out there and they can get reactions. Then they can gauge reception and make adjustments?

I know, I'm grasping at straws here.

I went to Gamestop, I'm home now. I was able to get a PS4, MLB 14 the Show and FIFA 14. I'll wait for Madden 15, I might get NBA 2K14 pre-owned, and I really want UFC but I passed on it today because I don't really think it's got a lot of longevity especially for an off-line user. I really can't wait until October for WWE 2K15, because now I won't be able to play a wrestling game (on a console) until then.

FOR SURE...this burst my hope of playing PS3 games. I just have to buy PS3 games then and buy the old games for much cheaper.

Like others have said now, it wants you to pay for most games. Not really my idea of a beta test if you have to pay. Terrible decision imo.

In somewhat related news, I'll be getting a PS3 again in a about a month as compensation for watching my sisters cats for a few months. And its a 60GB backward compatible system! So PSNow will be pointless for me most likely.

                      I don't understand why there's only a $2 difference in 4 hours and 7 days.

                        Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I don't think Playstation Now is "geared highest to us diehard Playstation Players" per say.

I don't see myself ever using this service with my PS4 with maybe the exception that if I sell my PS3 (which I won't) and TellTale's game The Walking Dead didn't make a file transfer over to the PS4 - I could continue to play it by streaming new episodes.

However, if I wanted to play a game say "The Last of Us" on my smartphone, tablet, PC or Smart TV, now your marketing to a whole new generation of possible gamers who haven't played any of their games. A Microsoft, Nintendo, PC, Ouya, or even a non-gamer who doesn't want to buy a PS4 or PS3 will be able to play these games. I think these are the targeted people they're really looking to get.

Oh, and all those hotels, motels, vacation locals and even casuals that need to upgrade with a new smart TV? Sony can now market their Bravia TV as a better type of entertainment system than their competition.

I think Sony is suppose to set participation/membership prices down the road (such as monthly, yearly, etc). The game prices will be determined by the game publishers with a final cost to purchase also determined by them. So, they will be determining prices early on. Making you pay during the beta though is wrong.

                        Just my thoughts.

It's all about numbers, 23. Social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, or even Twitch are valuable because why? They all have x-amount of users/subscribers or whatever you want to call them from all over the world that's opened an account with them. Businesses have to look into new and different ways for revenues for profit. This makes them valuable to potential investors as well as advertisers. Heck, look at this site for example. I remember in the day where I would log onto "The Sports Reviewers" to get sports gaming updates, reviews, information. That site morphed into OS down the road and now has open discussions about nonsports gaming, movies and other types of entertainments and services. As more of us joined OS, advertisers took notice which Steve is living the "American Dream". Even now, I'm looking for a new car to buy and have used the social media in looking. When I come here or at other sites, I see car advertisements.

You and I are the diehards. We'll buy a new console and multiple games. We've opened a PS+ account. We game against other players. We are in their system. I would say my wife is a casual. She won't buy a PS4. She doesn't have a PS account. Yet, she plays those $1 games on her smartphone, or Angry Birds on her tablet. Sony wants her. They want her to eventually open an account with PS. They want her to play $1 games or even buy games from PSNow eventually down the road. This idea they have reaches people not only from your PS4/3 console, but from your smartphone, your tablet, your Smart TV.....They want numbers. They want a growing list of them.

Verified last night that PS Now beta is charging to rent games (Not all but most of them). There are new games available to rent but im most likely not going to be using the PS now beta any longer. I agree with others on here that the service would be awesome if it was a subscription based service like Netflix and hulu. Id be all over that. For now, im going to wait and see how PS Now plays out.

They've got to recoup hundreds of millions of dollars they've invested into this technology and service, I think that's why it's unlikely we'll see a generous subscription option.

Maybe as PS+ members well get one or two 4 hour rentals per month or something.
