Same guy who predicted the Slim and Pro correctly is saying the PS5 or Pro Pro will release fall of 2018. Timeline could be correct, that's 5 years after PS4 launch.

Fall 2018 would give them a couple years before whatever is after Scorpio, good window to be in. Good price point and full BC please.

EG, if this is true I will say as a gamer this is really disgusting as a customer, I mean really, I just got the Pro recently and it not even been out a year, for them to come out with the P5 will be a huge smack in the face.

This nonsense needs to stop, let us enjoy the newer systems for a FEW years, they are already forced feed us these in-between systems already, these moves are making me question gaming from MS or Sony anymore. Really ridiculous already.

Agreed. I think 2018 is way too early and almost makes the Pro a waste of time. I think 2019 is on the early side and 2020 more realistic.

I think 2022 could be more Ideal, not for me cause I could go longer.

Both Sony and MS should not release any new consoles until 2022, that would make the PS4 Pro 6 years old and Scorpio 5 years, still to early in my book.

They just need to stop with all this already.

It's the new way consoles are done. Xbox went One. Three years later to One S and one year later to Scorpio. All upgrades. If true, PS4 goes 3 years to Pro and 2 more years to PRO PRO 5. If all stay backwards compatible it's not a huge deal.

That Ill agree with, if they are BC, but man it just does not feel the same as a gamer with all these updated consoles. Its just getting frustrating as a gamer for me. It's like push your current systems to there Limits and until that is done with many games, don't come out with another updated console. It seems like there just wasting our time as gamers. Sorry for Venting guys.

It will be really interesting if it's not BC. They haven't made their intentions known like MS has about the future of their consoles and insist they'll continue doing what they've been doing.

Speaking as someone that bought his first Playstation console in April, getting a PS4 Slim over the Pro, I think the Pro was a waste the moment it was announced.

I'm surprised that Sony would consider another new console so soon, but I get it. If they believe Scorpio is going to make an impact, and they probably have a better idea than most of us since they have plenty of interaction with third party developers, then limiting Microsoft to one year with a console with a massive power advantage makes sense.

But it also plays into Microsoft's hands. I think they would love to see an arms race over the next several years, because Sony is nowhere near flush with enough cash to not have it affect their bottom line. You know MS will have their Scorpio+ ready to drop.

                        Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

The earliest I see PlayStation 5 is Fall 2019. Three years from PS4 to Pro and another three years from Pro to PS5. PS4 is dominating and destroying the competition. No reason to rush out PS5. If anything, the PS4 Pro wasn't even needed and is selling decent at best. Sony should have waited until PS5 to introduce 4K/HDR, etc. simply because the user install base of those with a 4K HDR TV would be a lot higher than what it is now. The install base would have already been pretty much set where as now, you're asking people to spend a lot of money on an upgraded PS4, a 4K HDR TV, etc. and this doesn't even include PSVR.

The PS4 Pro was in early stages of R&D BEFORE PlayStation 4 was even launched so I would say that Fall 2019 at the earliest for PS5. Any earlier would be a mistake especially when you have the PS4 dominating. Scorpio regardless of how powerful that is, isn't changing that, period. Scorpio will be the same as Pro.

Those who have a 4K HDR TV and want all the extra visuals and stuff will buy it while the majority sticks with the base/slim models.

The base PS4/Xbox One both lasted three years and are now pretty much done but that's because both have a slim model available at a cheaper price. The Pro and Scorpio will maybe hit 10% of the user install base, if that.

Sony has no reason to rush out PS5. They can go into hibernation for at least five years and they would still be dominating. Microsoft on the other hand is going in a different direction. Spencer wants the entire XBOX history to be connected and playable on an upgraded console every three to five years.

The problem with this is that with the next Xbox console, the CPU MUST be changed and updated to something that will actually be current and future proof at that time. Staying with the Jaguar is only going to hold both consoles back to where that makes no sense to me considering both seem to be looking towards the future. Can't do that with what will eventually be decade old tech.

Both Sony and Microsoft are heading in completely different and opposite directions.

(especially if you read Spencer's current interview - https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...s-phil-spencer)

I don't ever see Sony making PlayStation 5 backwards compatible with PlayStation 4. Simply because they spent $380M on Gaikai. Sony's eventual future in gaming is ALL STREAMING where as I see Microsoft eventual future being ALL DIGITAL.

Granted, I would say maybe 2030 at the earliest but it will eventually happen. You can just see it. Slowly but surely.

In summary, both companies will do what they want to do regardless of what we hope they do. It simply comes down to if you'll support either/both/neither of them.

Not surprised. And, if you're a stockholder, all you want for them to do is make money.

Sony is a very diversified company with many different types of services. Back in Jan 2014 (just as the PS4 was introduced to the market) their shares of common stock was valued at $14-$15 per share. Come back to current times and the stock is now at $34-$35. Modest gains, but value gains for sure. Their TVs are not the number one seller anymore. Their entertainment conglomerates such as the Film and music industry does not produce like they did in the past. Besides semiconductors, electronics, and the financial services what do propose happened to lift them in value?
