I'd take the 1ms response time over the 5+ an IPS has all day. Ghosting is one of those things once you notice it, it sticks out like a sore thumb and something my sammy 5ms has. Plus how many games are you pushing 165+ in frames? 144 is over kill even for 2080 in most titles on max settings.

Only thing I will suggest is don't use the Dell DP cable, you will get signal drops. Get a good quality DP cable and run that bad boy in all it's glory, I love my Dell.

The Dell he got is known for 3 things

    Horrible contrast
    Below average light output
    And terrible color banding

Like I said the 24 inch version does not suffer from any of those 3 things

I can speak from experience that Asus and Acer 1440p monitors blow the dell away and is not even close

1 ms is only important if you are a competitive online shooter player

No chance you are going to have an eye soar with IPS 5ms

The contrast ratio of that Dell is 600:1 that is absolutely terrible

    Brightness is well below 300

From RTINGS comparison between the Dell and the Asus

The ASUS ROG PG279Q is a significantly better monitor than the Dell S2716DG regardless of the usage. The IPS panel of the ASUS has better viewing angles, so when viewed from up close the image remains more accurate. The uniformity is also marginally better on the ASUS, and this is good for a variety of usages.

If he got the monitor for just performance and no care for image quality then fine good choice but the Asus for 50 more would have giving you the best of both worlds.

To be honest a lot of this tech stuff is foreign to me. I looked at numerous models and listened to you all and coupled that with my small sample of research and what looked good and went with that.

Overall I’m happy with the final product. The smoothness and the movement of this monitor coming from 60Hz is like night and day. I will say this monitor is a little dark and I’m still tweaking settings and its probably unfair for me to compare it to my LG 4K but I don’t think I could go back to 60Hz. I truly have been missing out.

Again thanks to everyone for the information and advice. Much appreciated.

Oh and Madden 20 at 144hz? Damn!! At least that’s what I think I’m getting lol.

The 24 inch is $300 as well https://www.newegg.com/p/0JC-0004-00...0551-_-Product

Not sure if you prefer a smaller monitor for $200 less

If you don't feel like dealing with a benchmark program with a lot of bells and whistles you can download FRAPS.

I have it set up to always show frame rate in the top-right corner of my screen so it makes adjusting games on the fly easier too.

Use FRAPS which is easy to install and is small and tells you the FPS on the top right.

But if you move to the ACER or ASUS those have internal FPS counter that you can turn on and off from the buttons on the monitor.

It tells you the FPS in all games

I'm glad you went with the Dell when I was told about it I didn't want to believe it but I'm glad I did.... I have been playing Madden 20 on pc for the past week and it plays and looks awesome... Started playing on ps4 pro last night on the 55 TV and its tough. I'm so used to the performance of the Dell.

I’m just disappointed that I took me this long to jump on this wagon. After experiencing this I could never have a console as my primary gaming. I’m 2 weeks into this PC gaming and I’m loving it and I don’t even really know what I’m doing when it comes to tweaking things. I’m sure i am still missing out on a lot of features.

I will be trying out the new LG monitor that is coming out next week. Want to compare it with my Asus P279Q before my 30 day exchange at Microcenter runs out.
