A 2tb hard drive is only about 1.8gb of usable space.

that is just how manufacturers market HDDs. they use 1000:1 ratio instead of 1024:1 ratio like it really is. so you never will get the 2.0 TBs that is marketed. I think on a 2TB drive, ~1.82 TB is the actual size.

The following brands below are HDR Dolby

          LG
          Phillips
          TLC
          Vizio

The others brands like Sammy and Sony are tied to HDR10 which is considered the standard and that is what XB1 S went with

The tv's on that list above can get HDR10 standard with a firmware patch like Vizio has so Vizio now has both versions

To get HDR Dolby it will need to be a hardware change...HDR10 is a software change

I heard about that for the first time last year and that surprised me a lot. I dont know how they get away with that becuase really that is flat out lieing and is really false advertisment.

Even in your cell phones they market it as having 64 GB when all of that really is not usable . It's the same for computers , tablets etc ...

Whole numbers are just better . even 4K is a marketing term

well is how all companies advertise their hard drives. the ad says 500gb but it is not telling you that there is 500 available gb to use...Part of that amount needs to be used on the item firmware as well. It is a well known fact

I understand that a iteam needs to use some of its mermory for OS and such but when you say something is a size and it is really lower that is just flat out lieing and false advertisment. That would be like saying a TV is 50 inch when it is really 48 inch or saying a car's gas tank is 20 gallons when it is really just 18 gallons. When you say something is 500 GB that is saying that it has 500 GB of memory to use when it really is not. Like with ps4 and the 500 GB i think its OS uses like 90 GB so you should have 410 GB to use right? Nope becuase they lie its really like 404 GB or something. I just dont get how you can get away with clear false advertisment and lieing like that.

TVs that say 50 inch are really 49.5 inch diagonal lol

Use an external and be happy that you are getting a cheap 300 UHD br player...

Those that want no external are going to spend on the 2TB or 1TB

That is how MS views it for sure
                      Lol. That's just not true.

                      1. It's there to be a cheaper option. Period.

                      2. Your perception is skewed by gaming diehards and internet forums... There aren't many casual gamers out there using external hard drives.

                      3. 500gb is plenty, even for a digital only buyer, to manage and maintain. Both my PS4(s) and my Xbox One are 500gb. I have anywhere between 5-8 games on each at any given time, never playing more than 2-3 of them. Delete what isn't being played, download and keep what is.

well just like there is some like you that 370 gb is enough there are far more that want more space because they do not want to delete older games.

The 500 gb is being released to get it cheaper but if you are going to complain that you are getting half the 500gb then my point is more valid. You cannot have your cake and eat it to. Expect to pay little and get more space without spending on externals. Do you think that MS said yea lets release a 500gb console that in reality after the OS and fw will give the user half that for the massive games and not expect backlash?

If that was the case then why were there not more hdd options at launch?

MS is releasing 3 HDD sizes. If you want to not worry about space or externals get the 400

If you want to spend as little as possible because you find that you already have an external and half of 500 means nothing to you then that is for you

The 1tb is a happy medium for many

But MS is not releasing a 500 with the idea to just save money and nothing else

If you want to complain about space then why buy 500gb?

It's just smart business. The production costs between including a 500gb drive and a 2tb drive are minimal at best. Release the higher storage option first to offer something the competition doesn't in save/file memory and you can charge a more premium price and maximize profit. When the 500gb and 1tb options are released they will of course have to be cheaper. MS will make the most money selling the largest storage option. Therefor, that's the only option made available at launch.

It's the rule of 3s in sales. That's why you always see three options. Small, medium, large at McDonalds. Three storage options on iPhones. Etc. The most profit is typically gained from the medium and large options. The cheapest option is simply there to show the consumer "see, we care about your wallets. We give you options based on your personal budget!".

Yea I agree with most of what you said but the 300 version only has 500gb because that one is targeted to those that mostly use drives. Why spend 400 on 2tb when I can spend 300 and get a 4tb hard drive for 95 to 105 dollars

MS knows that those who rock externals will love the 500gb because is the cheapest...The 400 is a limited time offer because they are trying to gain on the desperate to have it right away buyers

1tb is happy medium with Madden thrown in

How is the One Guide TV through Xbox with the S. I have an Xbox One and I get I still get terrible audio to lip sync when I watch tv after playing a game. If I restart the Xbox and go right to TV the audio sync is fine.

If I play a game and quit the game then go do TV, the sync is off. I can never get it back unless I shut everything down. With the slightly better gpu (I think this is a ram issue but asking anyway) does the S do a better job with audio sync?

I haven't noticed it with the S yet, but on my old system, I got the lip sync issue too, but mine always cleared up by quitting and restarting the OneGuide app. I never had to restart the system.
