Hands On with Tetris Effect by UploadVR

Within 10 minutes, Tetris Effect utterly absorbed me in its lucid, vibrant take on the block-building legend. I managed to completely lose myself in the game’s arresting soundtrack and stunning visuals in a way that I’ve rarely done in VR. It was one of the most immediately captivating things I’ve seen since, fittingly, Rez Infinite.

I’ve seen plenty of music visualizers for VR along with guided meditation apps and soothing locations to visit. They’re all wonderful experiments, although I often find myself struggling to find much reason to visit for more than a few minutes at a time. Tetris Effect promises to break that cycle but rooting a tried and true puzzle game in the center of its fantastical atmosphere. It’s not hard to imagine many of us tearing through the game’s main mode when it hits before making the endless mode a staple in your weekly gaming diet.

Tetris Effect looks like it’s going to be the perfect winter warmer; a wholesome, hypnotic spectacle of a VR game that will draw you in with its surreal presentation and keep the hooks of its addictive foundation planted in you for hours on end. And, believe me, I’m just as surprised as you that I’m saying this about Tetris in 2018 inside VR. You’ll just have to see it for yourself.

Tetris Effect arrives on PS4 on November 9th with optional PSVR support. I can’t wait to devour it.

New developer's announcement of update for Sculprvr that adds "Explore Mode" with Hang Gliding, Climbing, and Teleporting!

Hi all! I didn't think I would be making this update for at least another month, but I had no choice. The previous update broke uploading to the content server, so I needed to push a hotfix. And since I don't believe in pushing updates without any new content, exploration mode is here!

In exploration mode, you can teleport/climb/fly around inside your sculptures instead of just grabbing and moving the sculpture around!

In the video you can see that exploration mode is still considered experimental. Here are some of the things that currently suck:

Tooltips don't properly show up on the explore tools, so they can be a bit confusing. For example, to switch from gliding to climbing, you press square or triangle to toggle on/off the glider.
Collisions are not perfect: the larger the underlying voxels, the further your collisions will be from matching the visible geometry. It's best to keep yourself significantly bigger than the underlying geometry. Don't shrink too much or you'll notice the spot you grab doesn't match up with the geometry.
There needs to be more sounds! Right now most things are silent, and unsatisfying.

Hands on Ace Combat 7 by UploadVR. Pisses me off too, but then I see this new trailer, I become dazed, especially in the 2nd half of it. Hopefully they'll support this with continued dlc.

It’s pretty obvious that Ace Combat 7 is shaping up to be another Gran Turismo Sport situation; excellent VR support for an excellent game that’s stretched just a little too thin. But, even if the PSVR-exclusive missions only amount to two or three hours, they still promise to be some of the most spectacular moments you can spend inside the headset.

Ace Combat 7 is yet more proof that cockpit VR makes for some of the most compelling and immersive content out there at the moment. Your interface is littered with switches and buttons that you’re dying to tinker with (sadly DualShock 4 support doesn’t allow for that) and it’s not hard to believe the chaos that’s occurring around you.

Like anyone else, I’d love to tackle the entirety of Ace Combat 7 in VR — and it’s a shame there isn’t more considering just how long development’s taken — but there is meat on this bone. Brief as it will likely be, this is going to be a blockbuster experience for PSVR and one you’re likely to revisit with friends and family. For now, that will do, but let’s hope there’s more to come in the future.

Just a heads up. Legends of Catalonia is launching on November 2nd on PSVR for free. Not a game and developed in Spain.

Set to launch on PSVR this Friday, Legends of Catalonia is produced by Virtual Voyagers in partnership with the Catalan Tourism Agency, which encompasses the northeastern region of Spain including cities like Barcelona. Rather than simply getting the viewer to explore pretty places, though, the experience retells famous stories from the region within VR. The aim is to give viewers a sense of the region’s history and culture as a teaser of what to expect in a visit. Check out the trailer below.

One such story is the legend of Saint George who, as you may now, found himself in a deadly brawl with a dragon that earned him his own holiday, Saint Georges Day, which is widely celebrated in Catalonia. Virtual Voyagers brings that story to life in VR.
