Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
Read an article this morning that there are 100 games in development for the Switch. Let's hope that all 100 make it from concept to completion.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

It obviously depends on what the games are, but this is encouraging news given the relatively weak launch lineup.Comment

Just my 2 cent observations. Those two things you mentioned are two things I could live without in my new Nintendo console, but two things they couldn't. Oh well.Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
To be fair, XB1 and PS4 controllers run $64.99 for colors and $59.99 for plain. So we're not talking about this Pro Controller being that much more than the other controllers on the market.
I'm with Doug though, Could have easily lived without the extras and have it be $59.99.
I'm excited for the system, but had they put true next gen power in it, equivalent of the PS4 Pro and be a plain black box with a Pro Controller, it would have been game over for the XB1/PS4. 3rd party would have jumped back on board with Nintendo's first party. But that's not Nintendo and I do appreciate what they do.Comment

Much more palatable that it may be more comparable in cost to EA Access than Live or PSN.

1) Just in: Nintendo president Kimishima tells the Nikkei Switch's online service will be priced at 2-3,000 yen ($17.50 - $26.50) *YEARLY*.Comment

Edit - Happy to see Nintendo buying Super Bowl advertising space. The 30 second commercial should help spread awareness.Last edited by areobee401; 02-01-2017, 02:18 PM.Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017
The more and more I think about this, I really like the direction this is going and the potential for forward compatibility.
Over time, same power fits in smaller space (ps3 slim, XBox One S, etc.) or more power in same space (SD cards same size but fit more and more on them). So how does this sound: in 3-4 years, you switch our your Switch for a newer more powerful console? Joy-cons just slide right on the side. All accessories still work. All games still work. However, the 'new' machine has more horsepower and plays the game cards that now hold more info on them (like how SD cards progress). The 'old' games still work because of the same card form factor.
Then factor this in: for $300 right now, you're getting $80 of joy-cons you'd have to buy separately, a $90 dock separately, and let's say a $10 joy-con cradle. That leaves $120 for the core tablet piece. I know, I know, it's not exactly that price, but it doesn't represent the full $300.
So, in 4 years when you upgrade, Microsoft and Sony have new consoles sitting on the shelf at, let's say, $400 or you can get the new Switch 2 core element for $200. That's all you need to upgrade...nothing else. And I'd be happy if that's all we needed to upgrade for 3-4 cycles.
Sure, it seems like a crazy idea, but to me, it's totally plausible. I'll put the investment in now to save it down the line if it saves me from having to restart from close to scratch every time.XBox Gamertag: djbeth77
