Re: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Release on November 10, Pre-Orders
I have the Xbox Series X pre-ordered at Best Buy and the Microsoft Store to ensure I get one. Once one of them ships, I will cancel the other.
Reason why im going with Xbox Series X is because it's best gaming console overall, is balanced and will be my primary gaming console for exclusives and multi-platform games. I want the best when it comes to console gaming and for next generation, it will be Xbox Series X in my opinion. Also, I bought the LG 4K 55" CX OLED exclusively for gaming so it was basically a plan that I have had for a while. I want the better visuals and more importantly, the better performance.
Xbox Series S though is a very capable console especially if you have no intention on upgrading to a 4K TV anytime soon. The main negative for me would be that it's digital only but if you're only going to play a few games a year every year, then it probably wouldn't matter much especially if you wait for a sale on the games.Comment

I had an S pre-order ready in my cart on the microsoft store - I should have just checked out. I could have open boxed it and played 2k21 until getting my hands on an X and likely sell it for exactly what I paid.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Release on November 10, Pre-Orders
Without a 4K TV, it should be the S all day every day. The extra power of the X really won't deliver much more than the S is already going to pump out to an HD screen.
I'm considering at S first, which I will put in my office on my 1080p monitor. Then I can try it out on my TV and see how it comes to the One X. I'm not sure I need the X yet, because everything I want to play is available on the One X.
I've been considering a console for me office, because publishers have not embraced play Anywhere to a large enough extent yet. Drive me nuts that my SMB and Madden accounts are separate on PC and console. I really got used to bouncing back and forth with FH4.
I have a good 4K TV, but it will not do 120 Mhz in 4K. I could so 1080p and get 120 fps, but I'm not really ever going to do that more than the one time it takes to check it out. Maybe I will change my mind if 120 fps is so much better that I don't care about the 4K and HDR.
That is a slight penalty of early adoption. I bought the Sony x900e because it was perfect for last gen. Excellent HDR and all that other stuff. But it's the newer Sony versions that will get an update that will allow them to do 120 MHZ in 4K. Not gonna buy a new TV any time soon, but that feature is noted.
But this gen I have absolutely zero desire to be have this on day one. There is so much confusion with the pandemic and a weird console war playing out between Sony and Microsoft, a console war in which they are not even fighting on the same battlefield.
I'm 100% waiting on a PS5 until later in the generation. It's main attraction are great single player cinematic games. No reason to pay a premium for this, which will play just as well on a discounted slim PS5 for $20-$30 as they do on a console that won't even fit under or on my TV stand, and which shows up for $400 without the games that make it such a great buy.
for me, this has been the perfect generation transition because, especially on the Xbox side, there is so much less pressure to jump in now. I can wait and see how folks like the console and games, while at the same time, playing all those same games with all those same folks that jumped in on day one.
Of every generation, this is the best generation in which, if you have to ask, you ought to just stop and wait. Consumers have wanted true backwards compatibility for decades. It's weird to see so many acting like it is a feature that means they need to buy it sooner, when it has always been a good feature for buying it later.
I can start a SMB3 league now, and everyone that that upgrades to a PS5 or Series X or S, and still stay in the league. No one has to upgrade to play. No one has to play on their old console to join.Comment

Next gen consoles are not about 4k resolution. It is about having a superior CPU performance so you getting the series X means you can downsample from 4k which will improve image and get the high FPSComment

If you don't have a 4k TV and won't be getting one anytime soon then the S should serve you just fine.
I'm getting a X because it's my only system and I happen to have a 4k tv and won't be getting any other systems for yearsNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Release on November 10, Pre-Orders
In the early days of the ONE, it held value great - I sold it and bought a ps4 with $ left over, later i bought the one x as I liked the 4k idea and missed the xbox.
At this point I want to get rid of my onex and want a series x but would settle for at least 6 months or so with the S - it's a moot point anyway as I didn't checkout.
I really think both PS5 and Series S/X will be very hard to come-by until mid '21...Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Release on November 10, Pre-Orders
It's interesting to see some of the reactions here. I have an X on pre-order. I've been leaning towards cancelling it, or keeping it to sell. All in I'm about $1000 into this system between the console & the storage expansion card I have ordered too. Why would I cancel you may be asking... Well I don't have a 4k TV currently. I planned on getting one by the time the console launched, but a good deal hasn't come up for me yet & I had an unexpected home project come up that I had to pay for. I've got a One X currently and a plain Xbox One. My thought is I should just cancel the pre-order and wait until the near year when they're in stock & trade one in towards the X.
I also look at it now though and go OK, well things didn't work out as I planned. Can't help that. However yeah if I can sell it and make a few bucks... why shouldn't I? I didn't buy it with that intent like I'm sure some people have; life has just gotten in the way. So it's not about hoarding to rip people off, but it just makes the most sense given the way things have turned out. Knowing me; I'll just cancel the order so I dont have to go through the hassle of trying to sell it.
I just don't see the benefit to me of having it right now, faster load times sure... but all the other benefits I'm already getting from the One X itself as far as I know. I'm sure I'm missing some other benefits of the upgrade for myself but just not sure how big of a deal it really will be.
I'm also incredibly lost in where the tech is right now for the console itself & when it comes to buying a new TV. When I bought the TV I have now 6 or 7 years ago I was up on all that stuff, but right now when I look at new TV specs; I'm so lost and I just get frustrated with it all.Miami Dolphins - Detroit Red Wings - Toronto Blue Jays - Michigan Wolverines - CANADAComment

Re: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Release on November 10, Pre-Orders
I agree about scalping, but what I would be doing is hardly scummy. I'm assuming the supply glut will be more intense than people think and getting an X would be around March/April. I'd have used the S until then, sell it and move to the X... and I doubt value would have dropped much by then, maybe I take a small hit.

Maybe January at the latest, but I would guess even sooner.
Sony and MS are more than capable of continuing to build consoles to cater to the demand. Yes, I think they will scarce for a while, but not impossible to get if you are a savvy consumer like most of us are.
Also, there will be a bunch at brick and mortar stores. You will have to probably camp out to get them, but you will see one or two pop up at Walmart or Best Buy, or even Target here and there.
I could be totally wrong on all of this, but I've been through every console generation release since NES, and from memory, none took six months to get if you didn't pre-order.Last edited by PVarck31; 10-26-2020, 06:53 PM.Comment

1) COVID - there are tangible supply issues all through the manufacturing and distribution Chanel’s
2) AMD chip sets, with ps5 AND Xbox AND personal pc’s I read about the issues they have supplying all of their new customers. Apparently it’s not easy to scale so much
We’ll see, I just saw a Costco preorder pop up for the S only but has 2 controllers making it significantly more expensive, and I never need 2 lol. It’s like the universe wants me to grab that S!Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

It’s not just new console syndrome- it’s 2 big factors

Re: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Release on November 10, Pre-Orders
I have two Xbox Series X pre-orders. One at Best Buy and the other at the Microsoft Store. Whichever one ships first is the one I keep while cancelling the other. If they ship the same day, I'll keep the Microsoft Store order and return the Best Buy order since the store is 20 minutes away from me.
I am expecting to see Best Buy/Amazon have consoles available for launch as it's up to the retailers how they sell out the consoles. I would think that they all would want some available for launch as well as Black Weekend and possibly mid-December unless they know they're receiving more consoles after the pre-orders/launch.Comment

Re: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Release on November 10, Pre-Orders
I just got notified that preorder was canceled. So I will have to see what I can do at retail stores on day one. The ones by me say they have 6ish. Only available through pickup via the app the night before. No waiting outside or in a line.. Any suggestions to help to get one would help. Never ordered online for a limited order item.Comment
