I do not see Microsoft throwing away 15 million, or roughly $1 billion in sales of Call of Duty every year. I do see them putting things on Xbox first, or obviously flipping back to releasing DLC on their console first.

I wonder what they value more? A billion dollars or however many millions in new game pass subs they think an exclusive COD would net them?

I have no idea, but if forced to guess, I would give the slight edge to it going exclusive.

There should be laws put in place to stop monopolies from occurring as it emlimates the competition & causes price spikes

Laws like these need to be put in place to stop companies like Microsoft from buying companies to be exclusive only..

If they buy them they should be forced to sell there games on other consoles as well.. same with Sony.

These monopolies are stupid & need to stop...

          2. Insomanic is a great developer has multiple teams and is pretty fast. Sounds like they have like at least 3 teams may even have 4. I think they expand even more by like 1 more team

          3. Insomanic lots of rumors about them working on some kind of Multiplayer game. I dont care for FPS at all but the loss of COD on playstation is big has a lot of casual gamers play COD and get systems like just for that. I think this multiplayer game will be a shooter to compete with COD.
Sony has ready Bought Isomanic & I believe they own Rocksteady games too.. though I'm not 100% sure on Rocksteady

But I do remember reading a couple months ago that they bought Isomanic so that one is safe for sure...

I can see Sony giving the middle finger to Microsoft & buying WB,EA& Rocksteady were they to go up for sale which I doubt none of them ever do..

Though there monopolies are pathetic & it has to stop....

This is where my EA comment came from: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...d&cmpId=google

                From the linked article:

U.S. rivals Electronic Arts Inc., Take-Two Interactive Software, France’s Ubisoft Entertainment SA and Poland’s CD Projekt SA all rose on Tuesday, with some talked-up as potential acquisition targets. The recent selloff in their shares and rising interest in gaming and the metaverse from large companies such as Meta Platforms Inc. has raised expectations for more deals in the industry.

“If Microsoft can get them over the line without any antitrust issues, the rest are all in play,” said Neil Campling, an analyst at Mirabaud Securities who sees Electronic Arts as “the most obvious takeout target.” Ubisoft is seen as another potential target, but could be hurt by the family holding structure, according to Campling.

The problem with WB is that outside of NetherRealm owning Mortal Kombat, they literally don't own any IP's so to get Batman or any DC property, they would have to buy it outright or pay for a long term licensing agreement.

Sony's studios are definitely starting to shift a little more towards multi-player games. Of course, it remains to be seen if any of them "hit" and take off.

No actual link. It's simply my opinion based on what happened with ZeniMax/Bethesda which was only $7.5B. Microsoft like with ZeniMax/Bethesda can't make anything definitive until the acquisition is legally completed but they're not doing this just to continue supporting PlayStation. If Sony wants these games or Bethesda's, they will have to bend to knee so to speak and allow Game Pass on PlayStation as that's the only way they're getting these games.

Sony doesn't have any timed exclusive deals or anything with Activision Blizzard and if anything, have kind of backed off from them. PlayStation will get COD 2022 as the deal isn't expected to close until 2023 but once that happens, that's it. Like with Bethesda, every new game release will be fully exclusive to the Xbox eco-system. But all previously released games like Warzone for example will stay on PlayStation as is and be supported like Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online is.

But new future releases isn't going to happen. I think PlayStation fans can't seem to wrap their head around Xbox actually being competitive and being all in on gaming. Not just consoles but PC, mobile, cloud, esports, etc.

Microsoft simply isn't playing around anymore. Also, Sony has a long history going back to PS One by paying for long term timed exclusivity deals that kept games off Saturn/Dreamcast and eventually Xbox. You look at FF7R and it should have been on Xbox about a year ago but Sony extended the deal to where it's probably fully exclusive to PlayStation.

Microsoft/Spencer aren't into timed exclusivity as most of their deals are 3-6 months where as Sony is a year minimum and instead of playing that game, Microsoft is simply going to buyout publishers.

In this case, via Jeff Grubb, Kottick himself reportedly went to Microsoft because of all the issues within Activision/Blizzard the last six months. This was in October and the deal got done in like 3 months. The Bethesda deal took about two years to finalize. Kotick wanted a way out, will get a massive payday, all the shareholders/investors will get massive paydays and for all the employees who remain and are actual normal human beings, they will have the full support of Microsoft backing them up.

For Sony, the gaming industry is changing rapidly and they need to adapt sooner rather than later or they're going to get left behind especially when it's not about only consoles anymore. Consoles is just one piece of a large puzzle which includes mobile, PC, streaming and subscription. Sony just seems intent to stay with their old and obsolete business model and it's simply not going to last long term.

It probably is. It’s not my bag, but COD is consistently up there as the best selling franchise year after year.

It may not prove to be as impactful as Microsoft is hoping, but if you had to bet on any one game/franchise being a system seller, it would definitely be on the shortlist.

To me this all about game pass. That's why they bought Bethesda and now Activision. They're trying to cram as many paid subscribers on there as possible, and then eventually figure out what the cost/revenue looks like down the line. There are still people getting it for free with their Xbox console purchase, and when all those people have to make a choice Microsoft wants all of them to start paying.

Absolutely, but it's about more than the console. Game pass subscriptions doubled from 2020 to 2021, and since January of last year subs grew another 28% to the 25 million threshold they announced this week.

So it's already worth $3-4.5b in annual revenue.

                            Exactly.

Microsoft it seems literally has more money than they know what to do with. If you’re in their shoes, you don’t spend 70 billion just to make a couple extra billion a year in software sales.

They want game pass to grow as fast as possible, and everything they do now probably only needs to be viewed from that angle.

Microsoft can take the loss of making CoD exclusive. They are a trillion dollar company and they don’t rely on gaming for that money. Just like how nearly every computer has windows. They want every device to have gamepass. The gaming industry is bigger than music and movies combined.
