Sounds like Dish would be a better deal for you then. I have heard that Dish and DTV are identical except for a few channel differences between the two.

I just went to a local dealer today, and I'm about to sign up for a pretty nice deal. I'll be getting a dual tuner DVR and a dual tuner stand receiver so that I'll have DVR capabilities in 2 rooms and standard receiver in two. That with the 180 channel package is going to be just slightly over $60 a month. The DVR is 100 hours of recording as opposed to 35 for DTV. The Tivo functions are nice but not necessary to me. Also, Dish gives the Encore movie channels and TMC where DTV doesn't. Just seems like a better deal for my viewing tastes.

It's being put in Friday afternoon. My new TV is being put in Friday morning. It's a good day.

if you have any geek in your blood and you want a pvr try mythtv.org

unlimited storage - use it like you want, not how some company wants you to use it + alot of cools things the other 2 major services will never have.

how do you get the picture (or how could you) to your television ? Or do you just watch on your computer.

Nope. I'm going to wait a while and see what develops. I've been on a 10 channel antenna for about 4 years now (since we moved out here), so I think just having Dish with my new equipment is going to tide me over for a while. I'll definitely look into HD down the road. Also, I'm a DVD freak, so I'll probably spend quite a bit of time just watching movies.

Nope. I'm going to wait a while and see what develops. I've been on a 10 channel antenna for about 4 years now (since we moved out here), so I think just having Dish with my new equipment is going to tide me over for a while. No, I have a micro-atx case sitting next to my TV - it actualy looks better than the huge replay tv my GF has.

The mb has a tv out - you can also get VGA to SVIDEO convertors ect... I think the VGA route is the way to go with your tv as the quality for my tv out on my MSI MB is not that good.

I also have a remote working with it - all in all, if you don't have some geek in your blood, don't try it. If you like learning new stuff and don't mind spending some time getting it working, its the way to go... and its all free - no monthly fees or anything.

Plus you can play games on it :P, mp3s, and all sorts of crap that violates our TOS here.

You can also stack them - IE like have one next to each tv and watch things from the master server - you can do this with replay tv I know as well - but you have to pay additional monthly fees - like I said with mythtv, its all free.

Ah - more crap - It also has a web interface, you can access it from work and tell it to record some special that just came on. I know you can do this with replay, but it takes 24 hours to sync - with mythtv, its instant. You can also add multiple tuners and record 2 things or more at the same time. Ok, I will shut up now.

sounds cool. Seems like in the near future ( I know some people have it now, only the geeks ) that our home computers will be tied into everything in our house including the TV.
