If I hire a guy to do it and after he leaves I don't see a very significant improvement, I'm not going to be happy. I guess I'm just on the fence as to how much better an ISF tech can possibly make the PQ.

Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread
Because the picture is already very, very good. Why spend another $500 when I'm not sure the ISF technician can get it THAT much better.Originally posted by koolbubbaice

I have a 57" Zenith HD Ready Projection TV.. I have the HD AV pack, and have the Xbox setting on 480i and widescreen, but have jagged edges on my games, not the clear crisp video I was expecting.. The game I play mostly is NBA 2k6 which does support 480i.. what can I do to clean up the picture?Comment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread
You need to change you xbox setting to 480p. This will help the picture. I seriously doubt it will remove the JAGGIES. Also lowering your sharpness on the TV will help alsoOriginally posted by delanceyjI have a 57" Zenith HD Ready Projection TV.. Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread
Sigh... I don't have the "Setup" button on my remote. I thought I read somewhere that there are 2 different remotes and I guess that was correct.Originally posted by ExtremeGamerHere you go guys, the 30 second commercial skip for the Comcast Motorola HD DVR boxes.
Here is the exact procedure to program a swap or 30 second skip to the remote.
1) Press the "Cable" button at the top of the remote to put it into Cable Box control mode.
2) Press and hold the "Setup" button until the "Cable" button blinks twice.
3) Type in the code 994. The "Cable" button will blink twice
4) Press (do not hold) the "Setup" button
5) Type in the code 00173 (for 30 second Skip) or 00236 (for Swap).
6) Press whatever button you want to map the skip or swap function to
I have mine mapped to the lower right button on the remote next to all the numbers. I think it's a pound key on my remote. I would be lost without this feature.
After a little searching, it doesn't appear there's a workaround for remotes with no "Setup" button.

My STB is a Motorola 6412.Originally posted by FISHWhat model # is your box?

I saw this archived AVS thread and unless something's changed, it appears some of the remotes for that STB are different and don't have the "Setup" button:

Specifically this:
"Yes I just got the 6412 and Comcast gave me the Moto DRC800 remote. No 'setup' button and I have been unable to find out how to program buttons to perform any other function yet. This remote doesnt have a set of jumpers on the back like my old remote did."
Here's the cable remote I have:

I use an MX-500 remote though. I just wanted to program the 30 second commerical skip on the cable box remote and "learn" it onto my MX-500. I guess I could try to figure out a way to do this on the MX-500, but I haven't figured out a way yet.Comment

Ahh, so they have new remotes..hmm. Wonder if it's to curtail all the hacking. But then again, how does that thing get programmed to work your TV or other AV gear?Comment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread
EG - My understanding is that you can only program the audio, dvd, tv, cable button and A,B and C buttons. There's a manual I have somewhere for that remote with codes to different manufacturers.
To be honest, I'm not real sure how it's done since I don't even use that remote. I use my MX-500 remote to control everything since it has more features/programming ability.Comment

Interesting. I'm just wondering when the TiVo boxes are coming, my local office said January.Originally posted by joebooEG - My understanding is that you can only program the audio, dvd, tv, cable button and A,B and C buttons. Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread
EG - Unfortunately I don't have Comcast (who I think is what you're referring to with TIVO boxes). I have a small provider called Armstrong Cable. Comcast serves all of Pittsburgh and up to 5 miles south of me (I'm north of the city). So unless Comcast buys Armstrong, I'll have to deal with this DVR.
FISH - No I don't. My sister has the same cable provider, but I know they have the same remote. The rest of my family and friends are south of me and have Comcast.
I think I can create a macro on my remote that can FF, but it's going to take a ton of testing and re-doing the macro to get it exactly at 30 seconds.
Thanks for your help guys.

Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread
Keep in mind you only need to get a hold of the proper Motorolla remote and it doesn't matter who your cable provider is since all Motorolla boxes work of the same IR codes. See if you can stop by either some place that sells or repairs them and they should be able to help you.Originally posted by joebooFISH - No I don't. Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread
Thanks for the suggestion. CRT is the way that I have been initially leaning. I would like to keep the cost somewhat in the low teens. Maybe between $1000 and $1400.Originally posted by bigfnjoe96It depends on what size your looking for & what type. You will get different opinions when it comes to technologies. I preferably like CRT HDTV. The have the BEST Black Levels on the Market & when proffesionally calibrated it's picture is simply OUTSTANDING. They are not always the prettiest TV's when it comes to exterior looks, but it does give ya a nice picture.
You definetly are on the right track by doing your research 1st. GOOD LUCK with whatever you purchase.. Keep us posted... BTW if you like click my sig to take a look @ what I'm gaming on...
What is the best CRT that I can buy for $1200? I am on a 32" Sony Wega right now that is not HD. It's a great TV and I have been nothing but pleased with it. I guess I will have to move it to the bedroom to make room for its replacement. I would like to get something larger, but the picture has to be great. I am willing to spend a little more to get a very good TV that will last for several years. I just don't want to have to buy another in 3 years.
On another note, my cable company only offers 4 channels in HD. ESPN, Discovery, ABC and another one I can't recall. I am not sure that it would be worth my cash to upgrade right now. It's a lot to consider.NFL: Tennessee Titans
