sounds like to me everything he said is the truth. Best buy doesn't work on commission, i've applied and known people that work there that have verified that. Nothing will be using 1080p for the forseeable future, at least the next 2-3 years. And no the ps3 won't be playing 1080p for a while. He's just probably trying to stop the misconception that everybody has to have the 1080p, which is what all these companies are making the consumer think.

the new samsung dlp's can do 1080p just like the sony sxrd and are a bit cheaper (i think lol)

i have my eye on the 50in dlp, debating to apply for a credit card and get the no interest deals CC is always running for 18 to 24 months. goes back and forth a lot week to week etc.

I was checking those out too but they're not quite as good a picture as the Sony SXRD's although for the price difference they are definitely a lot better value. I'd say the Samsungs are 9.7 and the Sonys are a 10. Close so I guess it just depends on whether you think it's worth all that extra money.

generally speaking, how much are the monthly payments going to be for a $3g tv? I know it depends on the credit, but roughly what would that amount to?

18 months about 167 a month
24 months about 125 a month

that's if you do no interest. if you did no interest you better make sure you can pay it off before the 18 or 24 months run out, or they will slap a pretty high interest on the remaining balance.

plus they make DVD players that convert up to 1080i.
you wouldn't be able to play your movies if you settle for a 720 model.

here's my thought on the process:
if your talking about spending close to 3k for a tv anyway, does it really matter if you spend another 1k to get the best of the best?

1080p as far as broadcast TV is a LONG way away. I've read reports where some experts state we won't see it for 20 years minimum. I don't know if I'd go that far, but I'm not an expert either.

1080p as far as broadcast TV is a LONG way away. I've read reports where some experts state we won't see it for 20 years minimum. I don't know if I'd go that far, but I'm not an expert either.

Here's my thought process (as I have a 720p DLP). By the time 1080p comes around, I'll be getting a new TV anyway (actually before that). I personally don't expect to use my DLP as my main set for more than 10 years max. At that time, I'll just go buy the next great new technology.

Your thought process is logical however here is mine. If i'm spending a boatload of cash I want something that could potentially be used even if it's 1 year or 20 down the road. Plus I don't want to have to buy a 720p and then have the gut wrenching feeling when something comes out that just "looks amazing" in 1080p. I know my thought process is not logical but maybe it's just the male basic instinct to want to hunt for the best of the best even if it's kinda a poor choice value wise.

I got a 30 inch phillips widescreen TV with a built in HDTV tuner, real cheap at Walmart. Here are some things it does that makes me pretty happy.

1. I bought a 50 Db HD antenna which gives me CBS, ABC, FOX, NBC, WB in HD. I am glad I got CBS, b/c my NFL team plays in the AFC so I will get to watch Football in HD. There are a few more channels, but they are weird. I also get a ton of radio stations that are not my local Fm stations.

2. This TV has active control were if you have the lights on the picture automatically adjusts and when you turn of the lights you can see the screen adjust to the darkness in the room. Active contol also set the picture setting when you change between channels.

3. It has picture in picture with split screen and the small box on top of the screen. You can play playstation while you have ESPN in the corner or spilt the screen. You can also switch between the screens to hear the sound of what picture you want to hear. I was able to split the screen between NBC on regular cable and compare it side by side with the same program in HD. What a diffrence HD makes.

4. It has alot of connections including a HDMI connection.

I just got this TV a few days ago, so thats all I know so far and I am really happy I purchased a HDTV.

I got a 50 Db HD attenna, do u think thats enough?

The way I see it (and of course it's just my opinion) the 720p will still potentially work at that time. It'll just downconvert the 1080p signal. That's fine for me as by that time I expect to have the 720p DLP as a secondary TV (maybe in a game room or something like that).

Then I'll get the latest and greatest 1080p TV that's on the market. I'm one of those who always wants the latest and greatest.

Neither theory is wrong. It's just a different way to approach it. Of course I didn't have much choice when I bought my TV as there weren't any 1080p's on the market!

yeah i guess i'm just one of those ppl who want the latest and greatest. the sad thing is buying this tv will pretty much mean i know i'll have to get a ps3 as i won't be able to resist to see how the 2 work together.

just bought a polaroid 32' lcd tv,and one of the pixels is out after 3 hours!! second time this has happened to me with polaroid!! what r the best lcd tv's?with pixels that wont burn out for a long period of time? also need to stay around the 32' mark,any bigger wont fit in my entertainment center. thx

I'm with you. I need the latest and greatest stuff, since nothing uses 1080P now, why bother. When it is being used, I'll buy a 1080P TV that will be better and cheaper than the 1080P TV's on the market today.

just bought a week ago a 32 magnavox with HD built in tuner LCD,at circuit city for under 900 with a 100 mail in rebate..the man who was talking with me told me to stay away from the polaroid,cuz of probs people were having...samsung is what i wanted,and i believe they are the best,but for 32 inches i was looking at 1600 bucks,so the magnavox is what i chose,the TV NOW is 997 if you look over at circuit city........

I just got this TV a few days ago, so thats all I know so far and I am really happy I purchased a HDTV.

Good deal jets. My walmart did a similar thing trying to clear out a bunch of HD CRTs. They had the 27inch Sanyo with HD tuner for $265 and the Phillips 30inch for $325. I literally stood right beside the tv's and debated buying one for 30 minutes. I also called my dad to see if he wanted me to pick one up for him. The only reason I didn't get the Phillips is b/c it was listed as an HD monitor...thus no HD tuner inside. My gf also reminded me that I really didn't have space in my bedroom for the 30inch.

OTA HD programming is amazing and FREE. I just wish MNF had stayed with ABC, that will be sorely missed. I get all the channels you mentioned except the WB. And I agree with you...can't wait for the NBA playoffs in HD.
