      depends on the tv. WHat is the brand / model # ??? Go into your xbox dashboard and go to the video settings. Select 1080p and if you get a picture you are good to go.

        Yes you have to use the VGA cable to get 1080p for the hd-dvd movies. If you only are looking for 1080p in games though the component cable is fine.

          I'm gonna give VGA a shot since you say they work well with our TV.

              What do I need (cables, settings, etc) to do in order to use my computer as a DVD player/media viewer for my Philips TV?

                should i just use the component inputs on my tv?...
                I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

                  dude, are you not reading our replies, several people have said that components are sufficient to get 1080p for games but not for the HD-DVD movies. if you want to get 1080p for the HD-DVD movies you must use the VGA cable, no exception.

                    I just use the VGA out on my video card to the VGA in on my tv. That's easiest assuming your tv has a vga input.

                        I can't tell you for sure. I know EG would be a good person to answer this, but I think this is how they are supposed to be seen, depending on how it was filmed and/or put on the disc.

                          Some movies will still have the bars. If they are shot in 2.35:1 or 2.4:1 aspect ratio. Movies shot in 1.85:1 aspect ratio will fill up the entire screen, it's just the way it is.

                                thanks EG, I guess I could have looked in the book to see this..LOL. Listen I have my tv on vivid and the contrast is on 80, I know it's seems a bit high, but it looks great with the way i have it set.

                                Contrast= 80
                                Brightness= 55
                                Color= 40
                                Shaprness=0

                                with these settings my TV looks great, I wanna know with my settings if I'm going to hurt my set. I tried lowering the contrast and brightness, and it looked like crap.

                                Also I read some where if you have the set on dynamic that according to the program you watching the set will set the best contrast, don't know how this works, but if you know if there's anything I can do so i don't torch my set, please let me know.
