I change my settings and I trying to get used to the darkness, I set my contrast to 50 and brightness to 45, I have my shaprness to 15. What do some of you guys keep your sharpness on?

You must have missed my half dozen posts on the questions that you have asked on the last 2 or 3 pages. I answered all of them for you just after you bought the set.

Here are my settings for my 55" SXRD(try them before you knock them):

Picture menu:

Mode: Custom
Advanced iris: Min
Picture: 80
Brightness: 44
Color: 44
Hue: 0
Color temp: Warm2
Sharpness: 30
Noise reduction: Off

--Advanced Settings--

Black corrector: Off
Gamma: Off
Clear white: Off
Live color: Off
White balance: (see below)
Detail enhancer: Off
Edge enhancer: Off

--White balance--

R-gain: -2
G-gain: -1
B-gain: 0
R-bias: -3
G-bias: -2
B-bias: -1

Setup menu:

Color matrix: Standard
Power saving: On

Don't base your setting on what someone with a totally different TV does, it doesn't make good sense. Did you go to CNET and use what they have? Something very close to that should be where your TV is set. There is nothing that you can do to make SD/analog channels look very good.

I used to keep my sharpness at 0, but when Chad B calibrated it, he set it to 40. I was a little surprised to see that as I had always heard sharpness should be at 0.

He has mine higher as well, but he also set it down lower in the service menu.

Don't base your setting on what someone with a totally different TV does, it doesn't make good sense. Did you go to CNET and use what they have? Something very close to that should be where your TV is set. There is nothing that you can do to make SD/analog channels look very good.

Football, getting base settings help, but it will all depend on the lighting of your room + how far away that you sit from the TV. Like everyone has said on here, you can't just change the settings and expect your eyes to take to the changes right away. You want to leave the TV for a few hours to 24 hours, or else the picture will look worse.

I used the base settings for my tv that a calibrator had over at AVSForums, then I kept on tweaking them to meet the conditions of the room. You will not notice a change right away, and from your messages it sounds like your looking for instant results which won't happen.

Like jpup says, SD/Analog channels will look like crap compared to HD channels. Pop in a DVD or Bluray movie to gauge if your TV looks good to you, if those look good then your TV is fine. If your guaging off of the SD channels also, your only making it worse for yourself and I bet you might be feeling some regrets.

Make the changes and walk away from the TV.

It would also help to get Avia or DVE to calibrate your TV. I just got Avia off ebay for $30 to calibrate my LCD.

That must be it. Of course, with the naked eye I can't tell a difference between sharpness at 0 or 100 so it doesn't matter to me!

This is also a prime example why other settings don't really work on all TV's. If anything in the service menu has been changed, then the picture preset settings are going to be way off from a non-calibrated user to a calibrated user.

I have a question regarding my new Vizio:

I hooked up my 360 with a VGA cable, and the color was screwed up (everything was green). I'm certain there's nothing wrong with the cable, it works fine on my monitor. When I use the component cables to hook up my 360, the picture is fine.

Is this a problem with the VGA input, or is there a setting on the tv that I need to change? If it's the tv, should I exchange it or is this something that can be easily fixed?

Ok, this is sort of embarrassing, but I'm going to put this out there for all the HD newbs (like me) who might be running into the same problem I was.

It turned out that the problem I was having was due to the fact that I had neglected to change my Xbox 360's output to match the native resolution of the Vizio. I had previously been using my 360 with the same Gateway 19" w/s monitor I use for my pc, and had the resolution set at 1280x720. Once I switched the 360's output to 1360x768, everything was copacetic.

Seriously man, just put the settings at whatever you are comfortable with. If you like the picture, then leave it there. You bought the warranty correct? Then who cares.

Or buy Avia or Digital Video Essentials DVD and calibrate yourself, then you know the colors are correct.

FF - If you spent this much money on a TV, why wouldn't you want the proper picture? Spend the $20 or $30 on Avia or Digital Video Essentials and get the picture quality as close to perfection as those discs can do. They're VERY easy to use. It just takes some time to sit down and do it. Either that or hire a calibrator to get it perfect.

I'm finally going to jump into the HD era with 2 tv's. I originally wanted to get the 60 inch SXRD but because of limited space I think i'm gonna go with a 56 and hang a 32 right next to it. Here are the TV's i'm thinking about...please let me know your thoughts...
