Dynamic on my LCD is pretty much torch mode, but it may be different for yours. I set my LCD on theater mode the whole time.

when you set it to standard, did you mess with the settings? I have mine on vivid with the settings I posted and the set looks great, I'm just worried that The contrast in on 80, but If I go lower the set looks to dark.

Do this, tonight, set everything lower before you go to bed. Give it 24 hours before watching it again, then watch the TV at least 2 days with the darker settings, get your eyes used to them. Trust me, the darker settings look 100X better than Vivid/Dynamic/Torch mode.

so I shoul reset all the settings, and set it to what? Standard or leave it on vivid with lower settings, I just don't know what to set it at, you think keeping the sharpness to 0 is stupid.

This works, I did it and I've gotten used to my settings of 45 for contrast and 40 for brightness. I love it too.

I don't think they're 100% exactly the same across the board but for brightness and contrast they are the same, I use the VGA cable btw which is brighter than component too btw.

As for my room, it's pretty much pitch black 95% of the time, I have my window covered with blinds, curtains and a black blanket, and I keep my door shut all the time so yeah, it's probably darker than a movie theater actually..

so with the room being dark and the settings on contrast and brightness being that low, the set still looks good, huh..I will mess with my set when i get home. I use HDMI for gaming, so I guess I will have to figure out what settings to do with that, I just wish you turn the set .

well wouldn't a darker room allow you to make the set darker or is it vice versa? I guess I've never thought too much about it, i just know that cinema or movie mode in settings usually makes the set a good bit darker than the other modes..

Agreed. It takes time to get adjusted to the non-torch mode image, but better detail will shine through. It also allows for a more 3D like picture.

When I first adjusted my set, I also didn't like the image. However, I went away one weekend and made sure to set the TV with lower contrast/brightness etc.. before I left. When I got home that Sunday night, I forgot I even changed anything. Then I started to notice a more 3D like image. That's when I realized I had it all wrong at first.

PS - On my video game input I turned up the brightness and contrast a little. A few games were giving me issues (ie: COD2 and COD3. I would walk into a house and have trouble seeing in the dark room).

                            Hey all,

Looking into my first HDTV. The parameters I've set are:

Budget: $1,000 (Not including shipping, taxes, ect...)
                            Size: 32" or 37" - No bigger than 42"
Type: No preference between LCD, Plasma or DLP (Projection)

My friend directed me towards NewEgg.com
I found a Westinghouse 37" LCD that is 37" for a grand. It is also 1080p, which is appealing. Anyone have experience with Westinghouse?

How about some of the other brands on NewEgg such as Olevia?

Any input or direction would be much appreciated.

                            Thanks

Not sure about Westinghouse but Olevia seems to be pretty much a big hit in this thread from my following it. I'm sure others can offer their opinions as several guys in this thread have them.
