Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
cool.
I used setting from a guy who owns the same TV, and after using this guys setting my TV looks like crap, when I set the tv up right out of the box the set looked great, now it looks dull and week, the contrast out of the bos was on max and tv look awesome, My freind has a 50" sony LCD to, he has owned it for 2 years now and he said he never changed a thing, and he has never ha an iss with his set, so if I set my TV back to the way it was, you think it will be ok.N.Y Mets

I wouldn't expect your friends bulb to go that soon. However, if he has his contrast that high, be sure that his bulb will not last as long as it could.cool.

Sounds like your set is still set to torch mode which isn't good for the bulb or a true representation of what the show(s) should look like. If you trun down the contrast and fix the other settings, the picture will be better and you'll notice more detail. You might not at first as you're used to the higher settings, but you'll notice how much better it is as time goes on.
I thought the same thing at first about the picture looking better when the contrast and other settings were higher. Once I researched it, lowered the settings and gave it time (about a week) I finally realized what everyone else was saying about lower contrast, brightness etc..Comment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
That's what I would do as well. I haven't researched it, but I always thought one should take progressive over interlaced if given the choice and the TV was a native progressive set.

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
the screen resolution is the bigger factor. if you change it to 720 then the TV is having the scale down the picture. 1920 X 1080 = 1080i or 1080p. 720p shouldn't even be a consideration. It's clearly obvious on my set that 1080i looks better than 720p because the native res is 1080, not 720.NFL: Tennessee Titans

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
Add that to the many reasons why I have no interest in a 1080P TV.
Just read over the weekend that the new Sammy DLP's can't even do real 1080P, as they can't process every line.Comment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
I about give up with these newer technologies. I'm getting a headache alone trying to find a receiver right now. I was doing more research over the weekend on that Sony I was telling you about. While not a bad receiver, the HDMI passthrough defeats the purpose of HDMI. ARGH!!!!!Comment
