Those are CNET's setting for the 60".
Mine are the same except I set the picture at 80, brightness at 44, color at 44, and the sharpness at 30. Mine is the 55", it should be about the same.NFL: Tennessee Titans

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
My family got a 42" Sony LCD HDTV, and I watched it for the first time today. I watched the Knicks game, and it wasn't in HD I don't think. It didn't take up the whole screen, just a box in the middle. Still looked great though. I can't wait to watch the superbowl tomorrow.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
it's not dull, you just have to let your eyes adjust to it. you have your TV on torch mode, it's not good for the TV or the PQ, not to mention your eyes.
color temp is warm 2. go buy the avia disc and you'll see what I mean. you could also go to AVS and check out the threads over there.
to know why all of these are turned off etc, read the TV review at CNET. It will explain it all.NFL: Tennessee Titans

"What follows are the user-menu settings we found ideal for viewing in a completely dark room with a 1080i HDMI source, namely the Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player (with its Enhanced Black Level turned Off). Your ideal settings will vary according to room lighting, source and personal preference"
Football, read the first sentence, these settings are for viewing in a completely dark room. I don't think you sit in a dark room correct?

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
Like jpup said man, if you use these settings your TV will be on torch mode which I learned about a few days ago. Good thing that I never had my settings high, but just in the mid range. By placing Brightness/Contrast so high you will be going for a bulb replacement before you know it.
I'm kinda confused, I've been reading all over AVS that this TV has some of the best factory settings for PQ. I know it all also depends on the room/lighting, but out of the box this thing should look good.Comment

You misinterpreted the 1000 hours part I mentioned.guys I need to ask a question, my tv looks great out of the box, but the contrast is like all the way up, should I leave alone ubtil start messing with the settings? someone set wait until the lamp gets 1000 hours on it, is this true. Don't get the TV professionally calibrated until there are 1000 hours on the lamp. You can change the contrast, sharpness, brightness etc.... as much as you want until that time. Changing those settings aren't really calibrating the TV. It's just basic stuff.
I'd turn down the contrast and brightness based on the picture you showed. In that picture it looked like your TV was in "torch mode" and way too bright. Of course, it's very tough to tell on a picture. Like jpup said, just get adjusted to the darker image. Over time, you'll see MUCH more detail in images.Comment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
While I don't have that TV, I've read about some of those settings (and my Samsung has something similar in DNie).
The reason many people want some of those settings turned off is that it produces an artificial picture. It digitally enhances the image which makes it look more "computerized" or processed and less real.
I've also read on almost all HDTV's to set the picture mode to "Warm 1" or "Warm 2".Comment

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread
I used the settings that lctdbuyingguide recommended on my TV and it just seems dark. I guess most conumers are used to having really bright TV's based on what they see in the stores, etc. Do I need to learn to just live with it? It just looks better to me a little brighter.Comment
