It seems like it ought to be possible to get it done cheaper. I am going to look into it though.
Actually the amount EG and I paid for Chad B to calibrate our TV's is a very low amount considering he does all inputs. Looks like EG paid $300 and I think I paid $375.

Many calibrators that I researched are closer to $600 and some even charge a few hundred per input.

From what I've been told and what I've read, you don't want to do that. The lamp should have at least 1000 hours on it before it's calibrated.

Thanks for letting us know that the lamp should be broken in.

If so, that's pretty nice that they come with a replacement bulb. I don't mind spending the $200 on a replacement, but it would be nice if Samsung sent out replacement bulbs with their DLPs. I think I paid $2300 for my DLP when it came out so a bulb would've been a nice addition!
yea my bad meant the bulb need to get more sleep!

Actually I wasn't kidding, I thought you were talking about adjusting the IR on the set or something. I guess sometimes we think TOO much about this stuff, LOL!!

Anyone have an opinion on the 50" Vizio plasma? I am looking at that one, the 50" Dell, or the 50" panasonic 60u.

I bought the Vizio P50HDTV at CC right after New Year's, and I love it.

Do whatever you want with it. Once it's calibrated professionally, everything will change anyhow (service menu and personal settings). It won't hurt your set to change it initially with DVE or Avia. The only negative a person can do by changing the personal settings is to set the contrast/brightness too high which will prematurely reduce the life of the lamp.

I got the "don't calibrate until you have 1000 hours on the lamp" from guys at AVS. I read it a while ago and it makes sense as the lamp is usually too bright initially and needs to get settled before any calibration takes place.

Thanks Mike on the "brightness/contrast" being too high, I never knew that.

That would be torch mode when you turn those up, especially contrast.
