I'm friends with the manager of the store where I bought the TV so he told me I could return it if I felt like going with something different. However, he told me that I would not have any problem with burn-in with the new plasma. The older plasmas, maybe, but not the newer ones. He works at Best Buy and he said that the TV's that are used as displays for the XBOX 360 are plasmas. They sit for hours on end sometimes with Madden or racing games on them and they've never had burn-ins, so that is a good sign.

However, here's my deal with my TV. I'm playing a couple of different games right now, NHL 08 and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I've noticed that it literally only takes about 2 minutes for a static image, like the life bars, or an EA Sports logo to stay on my TV. It is VERY, VERY, faint, and the only time you can really see it is when you press the "source" button on the TV and go to a source where there is nothing hooked up (so there is a black screen). After I play another game or watch a movie the image goes away completely. I'm just curious if this is normal. Is this the way the TV will always function? Should I be concerned that an image will eventually stay on my TV? I've only got about 20 days to decide whether I'd like to keep the TV I have (which I really would like to because I love everything about it) or exchange it for something else, maybe an LCD.

I know a lot of people will tell me to get an LCD because they are on the LCD side of the TV wars but I need someone that truly knows. I've read a lot about phosphor (sp?) burn-in and all that stuff, and everything I've read has said that the newer plasmas don't suffer from burn-in unless it is complete neglect, say, leaving the TV on pause for a couple of weeks while you go out of town. Anyway, I'd love to get some more definitive answers from anyone who knows. Especially anyone who has first hand experience or knowledge with this stuff.

    Thanks.

This is normal and will occur less often as your plasma ages.

I have a panasonic. I've been playing may hours of halo and my set is doing great.

You've been playing Halo on it? How many hours do you log (what is the most at one time)? And do the images always retain on the screen for a while and then go away?

      Thanks for the reply.

No problem, this was my main concern when buying a plasma.
After doing a lot of research, I determined that this was an overhyped negative.
This has held true with my experiences as well as the people from whom I
        learned this was overhyped.

I've played as long as 3 hours without switching channels. I saw a faint(very faint, only visible with no source coming through) I switched the channel and the slight image retention was gone after about 30 seconds.

Also, my tv is turned to college football all Saturday. I've yet to see any sports ticker IR.
That being said, I did do the recommended break-in. (full screen content with few static images for the first 100-200 hrs. I still watched football, though) Many people don't do the break in and have had no problems.

I'd be happy to answer any more questions on plasma. I spent a year and a half researching HDTVs before I bought one.

I don't think you would see that much of a difference.

I have a 57 inch Sony HDTV, but I don't have a receiver to get HD quality picture. Where can I get one from and how much do they cost?

You need to contact your local cable company.

Then you need to call DirecTV and tell them you need a HD receiver, preferably one with a DVR. Like this one: http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/con...setId=P4380062

I have a question. I am thinking about getting the 50 in Vizio HDTV. I have read on boards that it is a pretty good tv for the price. Has anyone here purchased it, and care to give any feedback on it? I want a decent TV, but don't want to sell my first born kid to get it. I don't have any HD channels, I do have a 360 that I would play games and DVD's on. If you guys could give me any feedback at all with either experience's you have with the TV or what you have heard, I would be interested in hearing your opinions about it.

                                Thanks,
                                Quock
