Yes they are user replaceable. Just un-screw a few screws, slide out the lamp, slide the new lamp in...

I just purchased another lamp as the calibrator I hired said mine was getting low. Cost me $200 with shipping/handling. Based on the number of hours the lamp was used (this is listed in the service menu), I'll probably end up with 6000-7000 before I need to pop in the new lamp.

It does, I must have spent a good 2 hours on there last night. From what I was reading is that with the Sammy that I have, if I get it professionally calibrated that it could look just as good if not better than the SXRD from what some of the calibraters have tested.

Again, the LCos has less moving parts in them and less room for issues. I was just doing some research to backup my purchase.

Yes, I too had a headache last night after AVS. LOL!

Like Mike said, lamps depending on the TV that you buy can last from 6000 to 8000 hours. I was reading that its very easy to replace also. Depending on the TV, the lamp price could range from $150-$200.

Extended Warranties cover 1 lamp replacement, but then the nice thing is the EW also covers the color wheel going out or any other moving parts so be it its a DLP + any other damage that could occur inside the TV as long as you didn't cause it.

Now with the LCos, it would cover the chipset that would need to be replaced if Dead Pixels appear + it also covers 1 lamp replacement + any other damage that could occur inside the TV as long as you didn't cause it.

Thanks again, all. I'm saving up to buy my own place next year and I've been daydreaming about buying my first big TV. Lots of new tech to consider. I'm checking out the AVS forums, as well.

AVSForums is a good resource, but take it in spurts..............the place can give you a headache.

So true. If you want to get some info on a particular TV, you usually have to sift through a thread that is over 1,000 posts long.

The 60 inch SXRD Sony comes with one replacement battery but considering the price of the TV its the least they could do...

Candy, do they make a bigger size Sammy...I'd like a 60inch or over that will display in 1080p using the 360 HD Disk player?

I can't believe you all really buy a 61" TV. Do you sit like 15 feet away from your TV?

When I had the 61" I sat on the other end of the room, and it was beautiful. Now that I'm with the 32", I sit around 7 feet away from it.

How does the 32" look that far away? That's about how far away I'll be sitting.

From 7' away? It doesn't look too bad. I'm spoiled from the bigger set still, but it's still a nice size TV for that distance. Anything from 10 feet away and up, I'd go a little bigger though. Overall, it'll serve the purpose until I take the plunge when HDMI 1.3 comes out.
