I want to make sure I'm doing this right.
I have a Sony Wega 30-inch widescreen HD. I set my regular X-Box settings to yes under 480, 720 and 1080. I have a Comcast HD receiver box. Is there something I need to set in the cable box or anything else I need to do to play games in HD?

They are both fantastic TV's, you won't go wrong either way. Seriously.

I have always preferred Samsung TV's though. I own a Sony tube, I do think Sony makes better tube's, but Sammy's not far behind. Like I feel Sammy makes better projection, and Sony isn't far behind.

EG is 100% correct, they are both fantastic TV's. it just comes down to personal preference.

Thanks guys for the recommendations. I'll look again at the Samsungs. Do they have picture beside picture or just picture in picture? I'm checking this tv out now.

They have 4 picture in picture modes (at least the DLP I have does). Two sizes of the traditional PIP and 2 side by side PIP.

ok, cuz on the websites they didn't give any info about the PIP or PBP, do you know what model your tv is and what size is it?

I did this about a month ago but maybe the model you speak of is newer and i need to do it again. When I did it then I thought the Sony was a bit better. Like on a scale of 1-100 with 100 being perfect the Sony was a 99 and the Samsung was a 97. However, I'm heading over there first thing after work today to check again to see what i think. I'll post my impressions tonight.

Especially the HD picture. Wasn't even close IMO. I didn't see the 360 on the Sammy however. But HD picture same signal side by side the Sony was the easy pick for me. Can't go wrong with either though.

It's a HLP4663.....so it's 2 versions ago....I think?

I'm not even sure what Samsung is up to now. HLR or HLS? I know they skipped HLQ though.

the same HD sig side bye side the samsung was a no brainer for me.. but that right there shows how everybody sees things diff.. either or, your getting a bad a$$ tv

Well all, as of tomorrow's pay I'll have $1916 saved toward my Sony SXRD 50" HDTV. Only about $900 more to go! Hope nothing comes up and I can get it in time for NCAA 360!!

I found these today on pricegrabber.com for anywhere betwee $2100 and 2500 and some with free shipping and no taxes. Has anybody ordered off of these online sites before? They seem random to me, although I have heard of Crutchfield before.

My TV's native resolution is 720p and the 360's always looked good on it. The 360 does output in 720p so I think it would be best to have your TV set at 720P.

not saying the sony doesnt look great b/c it does, but next to the samsung it looks terrible. thats just how great the samsung looks now..

we also put the sony demo on the samsung, side by side with the sxrd and same demo running.. it was like a screen behind, so you looked left at sxrd and was like wow, then looked right and seen same sceen and was like holy crap thats the TV to buy lol

Well I went to Circuit City tonight and you guys were right, these new Samsungs are better looking than the Sony although it's not massive, they just seem a bit brighter and slightly more crisp. However with the pictures being even I'd give Samsung the nod because not only do you get a bigger pic for less money but they don't have the horrid wide speakers that I'll never use. Plus I prefer the Samsung more compact and bad@ss black case over the Sony grey case as well.

However out of the two Samsungs I was looking at getting the HL-5087 (50") and HL-5687 (56") neither of them have any form of picture-in-picture or picture-beside-picture at all. It's not a killer for me but I had planned on being able to once again watch two football games like I used to do on my Toshiba 36" with PIP so it's definitely a downer.

I had pretty much decided what I want before tonight, now it's back to the drawing board *sigh*....Now i'm wondering if I should wait for Samsung to release another model with PIP or what..

I have the feature and the ability, but it still sucks. Watch the one thing you wanna watch most LOL.

Agreed, buy a cheap 13" set it to the side and your ahead.

lol i have a 20 inch on top of my entertainment stand, maybe thats why i never liked pip, i alread had it but in a diff form.. lol
