Got the TV I posted before in this thread. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1142294523740
Love it so far and got it for about $2,500 due to 12% off for being a reward zone member.

Very nice. What was your thought process when choosing a flat-panel as opposed to rear-projection? Price? Size? Just curious.

EspecialK, If you don't mine the size of a CRT, I would recommend the HITACHI. Here's a site which has some Older Models for a very nice price.

Don't be fooled by the site selling re-furbished HITACHI's. They are very reputable & nothing leaves their warehouse with being cleared by HITACHI.(specification standpoint)

I own the 57f510. The picture is gr-8. From Directv to DVD's to Gaming & couldn't be happier.

        Whatever your choice, good-luck...

I guess the DLP's are better at showing deep blacks for one thing? I'm still learning about all of this stuff.

Why do you want 1080P? I mean, what is making you want it, since nothing is being broadcasted in 1080p, and nothing will be for a long time.

That was my question... I guess, why would I need it? lol. It's not that I'm just dying to have a 1080p television... I was just merely wondering what the advantages would be for me to have one. I mean, I'm sure they will come down in price. I know that Sony has claimed that the PS3 will utilize 1080p... will the 360?

Why's that? Samsung has a very good reputation when it comes to DLP TV's. The Samsung DLP you posted is very good. I have that TV, but it's 2 years earlier so I can imagine that the newer version is better due to technological advances. It has a great picture with everything that I've thrown at it (DVD, HDTV, 360....).

To be honest, I often stay away from Sony because they're often over priced due to name recognition. Personally I'd go with Samsung or Hitachi before Sony. Of course, some manufacturers are better than other's depending on technology (ie: DLP, LCD, Plasma, LCoS).

Regarding 1080p. Nothing is broadcast in 1080p now. Nothing will likely be broadcast in 1080p for many, many years (from reports I've read). I even read a report that stated 1080p broadcast HDTV might not happen in our lifetime. I don't think that's true, but who knows?

Blu-ray and HD-DVD DVD players and those type of media will display in 1080p. PS3 will display in 1080p. 360 doesn't currently display in 1080p. They need to release an HD-DVD drive for that to happen. I don't know when that will happen.

The only reason I'd go with Sony is past experience. I've always been big on that type of thing, good and bad. The only tv I own at the moment is a Sony flat screen 27" that I bought 5 1/2 years ago. It remains the best tv I've ever had, including whatever we had at my parents' house. The picture is excellent considering it isn't HD or anything. I've never had a problem with it. Now, I was worried about it being a "name recognition" thing with Sony as far as big screens go. That's kind of why I posted in here to see what everyone else had and what you all recommend. Good to know about Samsung. I posted that one because I know they've always put out quality products. I guess if I'm going to do this, I'll have to do it today! Sales end! I'll let you know the outcome.

Ahhh, I understand. I do the same on certain things. When it comes to Samsung, Sony, Hitachi and some other brands, I think they're all good and large enough that it shouldn't make a difference. I'd just be leary of the off the wall brands and store brands (none are coming to mind right now to give an example!).

The concern in the broadcast community is the amount of bandwidth that 1080p will use. It's quite a large step up over what 720 and 480p use. The real reason we probably won't see any of the big four (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX) use 1080p is the cost of the equipment needed to broadcast in that format. All four of the major networks have already bought their equipment and won't be buying more until a new standard is issued by the FCC, and that's not happening for at the very least IMO 20 years or so. I wouldn't spend the extra money for a 1080p television when there's going to be little support outside of HDDVD, Blue Ray, and Sony.

Will, if your getting HD-DVD, Blu-Ray player, or even a PS3 than it's worth getting. If your not investing in those, than your spending a few hundred dollars down the tubes. I would look for a TV that does both 1080i and 720p really well.
