Okay. I would put the TV on S-video since I would watch that the most.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Besides, if I'm going to watch a DVD, it's most likely going to be on the new tv anyway. Thanks for the advice.

Yep S-Video is the next best thing to component. You wont have DVI connected to your HDTV though?

I'm not getting HDTV right now. I'm going to wait a while. I am getting a DVI to HDMI cable for the new tv though (the new TV has an HDMI input and Dish only has DVI). Am I right to assume that it will give me a better dish picture, even without the HDTV?

Ok, about to order a satellite service as well. Dish or Directv? Not interested in Zoom really. Directv seems to be slightly cheaper actually, but with about $64 up front as opposed to $0 for Dish. Channels appear to be similar. Tivo only holds 35 hours where Dish says that their DVR holds 100 hours. Dish will waive the $5.99 protection plan fee if you sign a 2 year committment. I don't see that Directv waives their $7.99 fee. From what I've read in this thread, most of you have Directv, not Dish. Any major reason for this besides the ability to get NFL Sunday Ticket, etc.? Thanks as always.

Also, in reading the Directv stuff, it seems as though you own the Tivo DVR box. Is that true? That may be why it's $64 up front as opposed to $0 for Dish.

Very cool. KDRE, you seem to be one of the resident gurus on the different services. Can you answer the question above for me? Thanks!

I have Voom myself.. lol zoom, but mainly because of the benefits of getting more HD channels with no contract and no upfront cost.

I'd say it all depends on what you want. I had both Dish and direct, and I just loved Direct better. Their service and all, the channels are a bit better although they are similar. If you can get the better deal for the tivo from Dish if you want it, go for it. You pay for Directv's service, I'd say talk to them first, tell them what Dish is offering and see what they'll do. Sometimes they work with you to get you as a customer. I dont think their commitment is 2yrs either ,but check to make sure. You'll be doing yourself a favor.
