I'm leaning more and more toward Directv, especially if they will waive that protection plan fee for signing a 2 year or something. Tivo looks really cool. I think you do buy the box, and from what I've read, you can actually change out the hard drive pretty easily to get more recording time, if that's an issue. I also like that "Season Pass" feature where you can tell Tivo to record every show for the season and it will skip reruns. I occasionally forget to tape Smallville on our VCR, so this is really nice.

I'd say it all depends on what you want. I had both Dish and direct, and I just loved Direct better. Their service and all, the channels are a bit better although they are similar. If you can get the better deal for the tivo from Dish if you want it, go for it. You pay for Directv's service, I'd say talk to them first, tell them what Dish is offering and see what they'll do. Sometimes they work with you to get you as a customer. I dont think their commitment is 2yrs either ,but check to make sure. You'll be doing yourself a favor.

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
The biggest advantage DTV has over Dish Network is the NFL Sunday Ticket. I think DIsh Network is cheaper to start up service though (not positive). My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Originally posted by caseydNope. No digital cable. We're about mile and a half out on a dirt road and the cable company said they have no plans to come out there (even though there are a lot of houses in our area). Thought about the self hookup, but I'm not sure. I called Directv and tried to get them to waive the protection plan $7.99/month fee if I signed an agreement, but they won't. I have to get that plan. There's a lot of wind and lightning where I live and I'd rather not take any chances. Dish gives you the protection plan each month if you sign a two year agreement. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx
