Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Most of ESPNHD's content isnt HD. Dont ask why, but it isnt. WHen you see the games in HD you notice it right off the bat compared to standard definition.
I have voom and they have quite a few HD channels. Some upconverts and some not, especially like DiscoveryHD and others you may have that I do like the primetime network shows.. Leno being one of them.. all the locals cbs abc nbc pbsHD shows its content in HD in primetime hours.
Do yo uhave directv Deuce?Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Naw Deuce if you get the HD from directv you just pay to buy the STB which is cool if you are long time customer I think 2+ years then its 99$. but I think you have all of what Directv has already.
UHD was a renamed channel, I believe it was BravoHD so you have as much as you're going to get at the moment without voom, with stuff like playboyHD and some exclusives they have like Kungfu HD, equator HD (discovery like) gunslingerHD (westerns), MonstersHD( horror movies), etc... but they are upconvert channels anyway but okay, but it seems you are cool with what you have.
TNT HD is cool when they show games though.Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
hey just got the HD pack for Xbox... set it up and it worked fine. Anyway i went to go play a little while ago and when i turned it on nothing happened... anyway after a bunch of testing i realized that now nothing will work on the input jacks that i had plugged the xbox HD wires into (yes i have a HDTV and yes they were plugged into the correct jacks -blue green and red). Does anyone know why one of my HD inputs would basically just fry and become completely useless?Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
I've been doing a ton of research on HDTVs for an upcoming purchase that I'll be making, primarily for viewing sports and also for DVDs and my PS2. I think plasmas are overpriced and LCDs are as well to a lesser degree; also, the issue of getting a true black turns me off a bit. I don't want a projection TV either, so LCDs don't seem to make too much sense.
In terms of getting the best picture and the best options and technology, I'm considering this television...the Sony 34" HDTV (KD-34XS955).
Here's a link if you're not familiar with what it's got:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-...oductDetail.do
My question really is this...barring anyone's strong conviction that this TV is no good, will this be an optimal purchase for HDTV viewing and really, will it be exactly what I want when the next gen systems come out. I want this to be the nucleus of my home theater, so I'm hoping it will have the capacity to take PS3 to the extreme and not require an upgrade to do so. I know it's a little long-term, but that's how I make my big purchases! Very eager to hear your responses.Comment

As far a picture quality goes, tube tvs (like the sony you want) are still have the best overall picture. ANother thing about the SOny you linked: it has an HD tuner built in. That is fine, but you won't need that if you get or eventually get Satellite or Cable HD channels. The Satellite box and cable box (if you go that route) have the tuners built in the box so you won't be using the one in the tv at all. I think they have the same tv without the tuner (it should say "hd ready") and it would save you some $$$$.
Also, I know you don't want projection, but check out the new DLP tvs. They are not as big and bulky as older projection tv's and the picture is amazing. I would just go to the store and look at some and see if you like the picture. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx
