        A year ago you would have paid that for a standard definition Sony at that size. Good find man.

            Man I am so lost when it comes down to choosing a HDTV to buy. I dont have tons of cash right now and am in the researching mode hoping to buy one in the fall. Does anyone know of a place with good reviews and tutorials on how or what to buy. Thanks!

                Whats up koolbubbaice. I am trying to save up $2000. It just wont happen for a couple of months since I just got married and need to catch up first. Thought it would be good to start looking and learning. Maybe prices will go down by then too. I read your article in the NCAA forum. I went to Best Buy today but its hard to get a read on the TV's. I always feel like the person I am talking to isn't knowledgable. Probably not fair but its how I feel. I saw acouple I like, didnt write down names yet. Thanks for your reply. I will look at this forum you linked me too

                    If you're referring to the people at Bestbuy, I think it's more than fair to say they don't know what they're talking about!

                    I've never been to Tweeter myself, but since they're on commission, I've heard they're very knowledgeable and go out of their way if they assume a purchase is possible. This thread has been invaluable for me in the meantime.

                      IMO the Majority of the salesman at BB don't know much..Cost issue. Knowledgable & educated electronics salesman cost too much to keep on BB's staff. I don't think anyone works more then 32hrs a week at the store I work for. BB's too cheap & don't want to pay for our health insurance & other full time benefits. The Magnolia ppl seem to know what they are talking about though.. Its a high end electronics room inside of selected BB's.. They seem to know what they are doing..

                          What size are you looking for.. What type of Technology? CRT. LCD. DLP. Plasma...

                          The Benchmark for PQ is the Direct View XBR960.. Has better PQ then anything on the market IMO & many others. Is Cnets reference HDTV.. Sells for 2,200.... But you can get it as low as 1,600.. 34inches..

                            Where is it for $1,600? I've been eyeing this tv for purchase for months but I'm thinking about just buying it in store so I can avoid the hassle if a return is necessary. Since so many CRTs have geometry issues and the like, it could be risky. I did see it on Ebay for that price...any brick and mortar alternatives at that price?

                              The size depends on the price I guess. The rest of the aspects I am unsure of because I dont know much about the subject. What does PQ mean . Sorry for being a little slow and thank you so much guys for trying to help me out!

                                PQ = Picture Quality

                                I just bought an HD set, although on a much lower budget than yours, and found it was better to do the research myself rather than trust salesmen. I went to best buy and asked if a TV had a feature that I knew it didn't and they all said yes.

                                Basically what I did was look on sites like Circuit City and Best Buy for different sets, and searched for the model #'s on avsforum.com. It takes some work, but you can find excellent info on that site. Keep in mind a lot of the complaints are things a casual viewer might not even notice.
